Irena Karpa
Irena Karpa () was born in 1980; she is a Ukrainian writer, journalist, and singer. Biography Irena Karpa was born on 8 December 1980 in Cherkasy ( Central Ukraine), and grew up in the Subcarpathian region (Prykarpattia). Since 1999 she has been the frontwoman and songwriter of the band Faktychno Sami (later renamed ). Her first book was published in 2000 when she was a student at Kyiv National Linguistic University. In 2003 Karpa received a graduate's degree ( magistar) in the English and French languages. After graduating she traveled Southeast Asia for a year. This sparked the appearance of her book ''Freud Would Cry''. From 2005 to 2008, she worked on TV ( ICTV, Inter and MTV Ukraine). In 2004 she was a film director of ''Kyiv. Limited Edition'', and in 2006 starred in Oleh Anpilohov's film ''Autism'' and A. Yakushenkov's film ''Compote''. Some of her works have been translated into Polish, Czech, Bulgarian and Russian. MTV (Ukrainian TV Channel)
MTV Ukraine () was a Ukrainian free-to-air television music channel operated by GDF Media Limited under licence from VIMN Europe. The channel was launched on 24 August 2007, 6:00 a.m. and was replaced on 31 May 2013 by a new youth-orientated music and general entertainment channel called Zoom. Channel rebrand On 31 May 2013 the operators of MTV in Ukraine, 'GDF Media' announced that the channel would cease operating from 23:00 on 31 May 2013 and would be rebranded as Zoom. The decision to replace MTV with a new channel was decided by GDF Media, as the owners of the licence to operate the Ukrainian version of MTV felt the brand is no-longer relevant to the demographic the channel was targeting. The decision to replace MTV Ukraine with Zoom came shortly after MTV Russia was closed down as a free-to-air television network and relaunched on pay television. Contemporary Ukrainian Literature
Contemporary Ukrainian literature refers to Ukrainian literature since 1991, the year of both Ukrainian independence and the collapse of the Soviet Union. From that year on, censorship in the Soviet Union ceased to exist and writers were able to break openly with the official socialist realism style of art, music, and literature. Principal changes had taken place in Ukrainian literature already under Perestroika (1985) and especially after the Chernobyl disaster. Some researchers consider that modern Ukrainian literature was born during the 1970s and founded by Soviet dissidents from the sixties generation. Due to the increased freedom and openness of Ukrainian society to foreign influences and much broader access to the literatures of other countries, contemporary Ukrainian literature is different from the literature of the Soviet and Classical periods.
