Ioan Vulpescu
Ioan "Ionuț" Vulpescu (born 17 June 1976) is a Romanian politician. A member of the Chamber of Deputies for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 2012, he was the Minister of Culture in the Fourth Ponta Cabinet from 17 December 2014 to 17 November 2015 and has held the position again since 4 January 2017. Biography Studies Ionuț Vulpescu graduated from the faculty of Orthodox Theology at the University of Bucharest. He has a master's in Doctrine and Culture and a PhD in Philosophy from the same institution. From 2000 to 2004, he serve as an expert at the Department of Culture - Religions of the Presidential Administration. Beginning in 2004, he became adviser to then-President of Romania Ion Iliescu. He was executive secretary of the PSD, in charge of political strategies. Since the founding of the "Bucharest Club" in 2009, Vulpescu has been its vice president. The Fourth Ponta Cabinet was the government of Romania from 17 December 2014 to 17 November 2015. The Cabinet was supported by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), the alliance forged by Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu's Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) and Daniel Constantin's Conservative Party (PC). 2012 Romanian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Romania on 9 December 2012. The Social Liberal Union (USL) of Prime Minister Victor Ponta won an absolute majority in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. Despite the severe weather in parts of the country, the turnout was at 42%, slightly higher than the last legislative elections held in 2008 which saw a turnout of 39%. The Social Liberal Union (USL) obtained a huge majority in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, with 60% and 59% respectively of the votes and in MP mandates, a record number of 395 seats. Far behind, the Right Romania Alliance (ARD) came in second place with only 17% of the vote and 80 seats, losing about half of what they won in 2008. Ion Iliescu
Ion Iliescu (; born 3 March 1930) is a Romanian politician and engineer who served as President of Romania from 1989 until 1996 and from 2000 until 2004. Between 1996 and 2000 and also from 2004 to 2008, the year in which he retired, Iliescu was a senator for the Social Democratic Party (PSD), of which he is the founder and honorary president to this day. Iliescu joined the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) in 1953 and became a member of its Central Committee in 1965. Beginning with 1971, he was gradually marginalized by Nicolae Ceaușescu. He had a leading role in the Romanian Revolution, becoming the country's president in December 1989. In May 1990, he became Romania's first freely elected head of state. The Social Democratic Party ( ro, Partidul Social Democrat, PSD) is the largest social democratic political party in Romania and also the largest overall political party in the country, aside from European Parliament level, where it is the second largest by total number of MEPs, after the National Liberal Party (PNL).
