Flag Of Estonia
The flag of Estonia ( et, Eesti lipp) is a tricolour featuring three equal horizontal bands of blue (top), black (middle), and white (bottom). In Estonian it is colloquially called the (). The tricolour was already in wide use as the symbol of Estonia and Estonians when the country gained independence in 1918. Formally, the became the national flag by the decision of the Estonian Provisional Government on 21 November 1918, and the flag's official status was reconfirmed by a law on 16 July 1922. The tricolour was used as the national flag until June 1940 when the Soviet Union invaded and occupied Estonia. After the annexation of Estonia by the Soviet Union in August 1940, the use of the national tricolour and its blue, black and white colour combination was banned and punishable by law in the Soviet Union. 2015 Estonian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Estonia on 1 March 2015. Advance voting was held between 19 and 25 February with a turnout of 33 percent. The Reform Party remained the largest in the Riigikogu, winning 30 of the 101 seats. Its leader, Taavi Rõivas, remained Prime Minister. The newly elected 101 members of the 13th Riigikogu assembled at Toompea Castle in Tallinn within ten days of the election. Background This was the first election since the resignation of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, who relinquished his position after holding the office for almost nine years. Following the resignation, a new coalition comprising the Estonian Reform Party and the Estonian Social Democrats were authorized to form a new government on 24 March 2014 with 34-year-old Taavi Rõivas as the new Prime Minister. Jaak Aaviksoo
Jaak Aaviksoo (born 11 January 1954) is an Estonian politician and physicist, a former rector of the University of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). Aaviksoo has been the Estonian Minister of Defence and Minister of Education and Research, he was a member of the liberal conservative party Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica. Jaak Aaviksoo is the first rector in Estonia who is also an academician. Education and career in science Aaviksoo was born in Tartu. After graduating from Tartu Secondary School No. 2 (present-day Miina Härma Gymnasium) in 1971, he entered the Tartu State University physics department in the chemistry-physics faculty and graduated ''cum laude'' in the field of theoretical physics in 1976. Juhan Aavik
Juhan Aavik (29 January 1884, in Holstre, Kreis Fellin, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire – 26 November 1982, in Stockholm, Sweden) was an Estonian composer. Aavik studied music composition at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He later served as a conductor in Tartu, Governorate of Livonia (1911–1925), a musical conservatory professor and director in Tallinn (1928–1944), and an Estonian song festival conductor in Sweden (1948–1961) (after arriving there in 1944). He wrote nearly 200 Opus numbers, among them two symphonies; a Cello concerto (1949); a Double bass Concerto (1950); a Piano trio (1957); a Requiem (1959); and various choral works, songs and chamber music. In Stockholm at age 81 (1965–1969), he published a history of Estonian music in four volumes. Hardo Aasmäe
Hardo Aasmäe (11 February 1951 – 2 December 2014) was an Estonian geographer, entrepreneur and politician. He was active in the Estonian People's Front, and was the first post-Soviet mayor of Tallinn, from 1990 to 1992. He was for many years the editor-in-chief of the Estonian Encyclopaedia. Aasmäe produced many radio shows and was a member of ''Tarkade klubi'', an Estonian question-and-answer radio programme, for many years. Signy Aarna
Signy Aarna (born 4 October 1990) is an Estonian footballer who plays as a forward for Finnish club Åland United and for the Estonia national team. She previously played for Finnish club Pallokissat and FC Lootos of the Estonian Naiste Meistriliiga. Club career From Ahja, Põlva County, Aarna started training with the youth team of FC Lootos as a goalkeeper in 2003. In 2005, 2007 and 2008 she won Estonian youth titles with the club's different age groups. FC Lootos In 2008, she started in FC Lootos' senior squad in the Esiliiga, the second level of women's football in Estonia. FC Lootos won the league and Aarna was the top scorer with 48 goals. Juhan Aare
Juhan Aare (20 February 1948 – 6 October 2021) was an Estonian journalist, politician, and the founder of the Estonian Green Movement (not to be confused with current Estonian Green Party) as well as one of the instigators of the Phosphorite War protest movement. Since 3 December 2002, he was a member of the People's Union of Estonia. In the 1980s he was a journalist in the TV-program ''Panda'', which dealt with environmental issues. His younger brother was musician Tõnu Aare (1953–2021). In 1983, Juhan Aare married actress and film director Riina Hein. The couple divorced in 2000. Upon graduation from elementary school, Aamisepp's education became militarily focused, with Aamisepp being set on joining the Imperial Russian Army. While in St. Petersburg, Aamisepp became involved with a revolutionary movement inside Russia. 3rd Division (Estonia)
The 3rd Division of the Estonian Army, was one of the three Estonian divisions created during the Estonian War of Independence, which was active till the Soviet occupation of Estonia. Since the restoration of independence in 1991 there are no divisions currently among the Estonian Defence Forces. The division's first commander was Ernst Põdder.
