Ignacio (formerly Pacheco) is an unincorporated community in Marin County, California. It is located southeast of downtown Novato, at an elevation of 30 feet (9 m). Ignacio is a neighborhood located west of Bel Marin Keys, CA. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), it is located at , placing it north of the interchange of U.S. Route 101 and Ignacio Boulevard, in Novato. History Two authenticated Coast Miwok villages existed near Ignacio: ''Puyuku'' (south of the town) and ''Shotokmo-cha'' (to the southeast). During the 1840s and 1850s, Ignacio was part of Rancho San Jose, a land grant which Governor Alvarado awarded to Ignacio Pacheco. After Ignacio died in 1864, his estate was divided among his heirs. Coast Miwok
The Coast Miwok are an Indigenous people of California that were the second-largest tribe of the Miwok people. Coast Miwok inhabited the general area of present-day Marin County and southern Sonoma County in Northern California, from the Golden Gate north to Duncans Point and eastward to Sonoma Creek. Coast Miwok included the Bodega Bay Miwok, or Olamentko (Olamentke), from authenticated Miwok villages around Bodega Bay, the Marin Miwok, or Hookooeko (Huukuiko), and Southern Sonoma Miwok, or Lekahtewutko (Lekatuit). While they did not have an overarching name for themselves, the Coast Miwok word for people, ''Micha-ko'', was suggested by A. L. Northwestern Pacific Railroad
The Northwestern Pacific Railroad is a mainline railroad from the former ferry connections in Sausalito, California north to Eureka, with a connection to the national railroad system at Schellville. The railroad has gone through a complex history of different ownership and operators but has maintained a generic name of reference as the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, despite no longer being officially named that. Currently, only a stretch of mainline from Larkspur to the Sonoma County Airport in Windsor and east to Schellville on the “south end” is operated by Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART), which operates both commuter and freight trains with plans for future extension north to Cloverdale. Juan Bautista Valentín Alvarado y Vallejo (February 14, 1809 – July 13, 1882) usually known as Juan Bautista Alvarado, was a Californio politician that served as governor of Alta California from 1837 to 1842. Prior to his term as governor, Alvarado briefly led a movement for independence of Alta California from 1836 to 1837, in which he successfully deposed interim governor Nicolás Gutiérrez, declared independence, and created a new flag and constitution, before negotiating an agreement with the Mexican government resulting in his recognition as governor and the end of the independence movement. In Alta California (now known as California) and Baja California, ranchos were concessions and land grants made by the Viceroyalty of New Spain, Spanish and History of Mexico, Mexican governments from 1775 to 1846. The Spanish concessions of land were made to retired soldiers as an inducement for them to settle in the frontier. These concessions reverted to the Spanish crown upon the death of the recipient. Rancho San Jose (Pacheco)
Rancho San Jose was a Mexican land grant in present-day Marin County, California given in 1840 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Ygnacio Pacheco. The grant included the lands of Hamilton Air Force Base and the community of Ignacio. History Ygnacio Pacheco (1808 - 1864) was the grandson of Juan Salvio Pacheco (1729 - 1777) and Maria Carmen del Valle, who came to California in 1776 with the Anza Expedition. Ygnacio Pacheco was born in San Jose, the only child of Ygnacio Bernardino Pacheco, the alcalde of San Jose and cousin of Salvio Pacheco, founder of Concord. Ygnacio Pacheco was a soldier at the Presidio of San Francisco. He retired in 1838 and was granted one and a half leagues in 1840. In 1846 he was alcalde of San Rafael. Bel Marin Keys is an unincorporated community in Marin County, California. It lies at an elevation of . Geography Bel Marin Keys is a waterfront community located east of the city of Novato. The community has approximately 700 homes. Most of the homes sit either on one of the many lagoons or on Novato Creek. All of the lagoons have access to San Pablo Bay through the navigational locks. The community is in ZIP code 94949 and area codes 415 and 628. Bel Marin Keys was a planned community built between the late 1950s and late 1980s. Phases 1 through 4 were completed, but phase 5 was never built and instead the land is in the process of being restored back into the wetlands of Whiteside marsh, which were drained in the early 1900s for farmland.
