Iceland Music Awards
The Icelandic Music Awards () are the official annual music awards given in Iceland to commemorate the musical achievements of the year. The award was established in 1993 with an annual rock award given by the Félag íslenskra hljómlistarmanna (FÍH) (''Union of Icelandic Musicians''); since then, it has developed into a multi-category event held usually in January or February for awards of the previous year. Since 2002, the event has been sponsored by the Icelandic Music Association known as ''Samtónn''. Iceland is a Nordic countries, Nordic island country between the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between North America and Europe. Kaleo (band)
Kaleo (stylized as KALEO) is an Icelandic blues rock band which formed in Mosfellsbær in 2012. It consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Jökull Júlíusson, drummer Davíð Antonsson, bassist Daniel Kristjánsson, lead guitarist Rubin Pollock and harmonicist Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson. They have released four studio albums, ''Kaleo'' (2013), '' A/B'' (2016), ''Surface Sounds'' (2021), and ''Mixed Emotions'' (2025), as well as the EP ''Glasshouse'' (2013). ''A/B'' has sold over one million albums worldwide. Agent Fresco
Agent Fresco are an Icelandic band that combines pop, alternative, art, and math rock. They formed in 2008, just weeks prior to winning the Músíktilraunir. Their first release was the EP ''Lightbulb Universe'', which won at the Kraumur Awards. The lead singer is Arnór Dan Arnarson. Vignir Rafn Hilmarsson plays bass guitar as well as the electric upright bass, Hrafnkell Örn Guðjónsson plays the drums, and Þórarinn Guðnason plays the guitar and piano/keyboards. In late 2010, Agent Fresco released their first full-length album, ''A Long Time Listening''. ''Destrier'', their second full-length album, followed on 7 August 2015. Daníel Bjarnason
Daníel Bjarnason (born 26 February 1979) is an Icelandic composer and conductor. He has garnered widespread acclaim for his debut album, ''Processions'' (2010), with TimeOut NY writing he "create(s) a sound that comes eerily close to defining classical music's undefinable brave new world". Life and career Born on 26 February 1979, Daníel studied composition, piano and conducting in Reykjavik, before going on to further study orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He has had a number of works commissioned and debuted by Los Angeles Philharmonic. Daníel is currently composer-in-residence at the Muziekgebouw Frits Philips, Eindhoven, Netherlands and was artist-in-residence with Iceland Symphony Orchestra from 2015 to 2018. ADHD (band)
ADHD is an Icelandic band formed in 2007 known for their instrumental music, influenced by jazz and rock. Its manager is Jom Lofty. Formation The band was formed to perform at the Höfn í Hornafirði blues-festival in 2007 and as the collaboration was successful the band decided to keep on performing. Their first album, ''ADHD'' was recorded and published in 2009 and won the title Icelandic Jazz Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards. Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands (Iceland Symphony Orchestra) (ISO) is an Icelandic orchestra based in Reykjavík. Its primary concert venue is the Harpa (concert hall), Harpa Concert Hall. The Iceland Symphony is an autonomous public institution under the auspices of the Icelandic Ministry of Education. Iceland Symphony Orchestra made its home in Háskólabíó (University Cinema) from 1961 to 2011, but moved into the new 1800-seat Harpa Concert Hall in spring 2011. The orchestra gives approximately sixty concerts each season. Per a 1982 law (changed in 2007), the Iceland Symphony's primary financial sources are the Icelandic treasury (82%) and the City of Reykjavik (18%). Skálmöld
Skálmöld () is a Viking / folk metal band from Reykjavík, Iceland, formed in August 2009. The band's name is literally translated as ''Age of Swords'' and also means "lawlessness", referring to the Age of the Sturlungs of Icelandic history, when a civil war broke out between the country's family clans. History Snæbjörn Ragnarsson and Björgvin Sigurðsson, who have been friends since childhood and have played together in various collectives, including death metal and punk bands, decided to start a new metal band, Skálmöld, formed in August 2009 in Reykjavík. Amaba Dama stylized as AmabAdamA is an Icelandic reggae band. The band formed in 2013 is signed to the Record Records label in Iceland. AmabAdamA has released its album ''Heyrðu mig nú'' with both the album and the single "Hossa Hossa" charted in the Icelandic Singles Chart in 2014 and "GAIA" in 2015. Valdimar (band)
Valdimar is an Icelandic indie pop band that was established in 2009 as a duo by Valdimar Guðmundsson and Ásgeir Aðalsteinsson, both originating from Keflavik, Iceland. About Guðlaugur Guðmundsson, Þorvaldur Halldórsson, Kristinn Evertsson and Högni Þorsteinsson gradually joined in to render it a 6-member band. Later, Örn Eldjárn joined the band as bass player. When performing live, the band is most often supported by a small brass section. Their music builds up from being soft and intimate to a hair-raising, heart-stirring energy, often with all members on stage playing full blast. Júníus Meyvant
Júníus Meyvant is the stage name and musical project of Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson, an Icelandic singer-songwriter. NPR Music described his style as "soul-stirring melodies from way up north" in discussing his 2014 single, "Color Decay." That year, KEXP-FM, a Seattle radio station, named the single a song of the day. Meyvant performs internationally, playing his first New York City show in 2017. He also performed at Bumbershoot 2017, a Seattle music festival. He released his ''Floating Harmonies'' album through Record Records, an Icelandic label. The art on the cover is his own work. Prins Póló
Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson (26 April 1977 – 29 September 2022), better known by his stage name Prins Póló, was an Icelandic singer-songwriter and experimental artist. He was also part of the Icelandic band Skakkamanage. Skakkamanage Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson started his career in the mid-2000s when he developed the alternative rock band Skakkamanage that released three albums: ''Lab of Love'' in 2006, followed by ''All Over The Face'' in 2008. The latter album was nominated for "Best Album" in Iceland Kraumur Awards.
