Ice War
''Ice War'' is a board wargame published by Metagaming Concepts in 1978 that hypothesizes a Eurasian attack against American oilfields in Alaska. Gameplay ''Ice War'' is a two-player game of arctic warfare involving a raid by the Eurasian Socialist Alliance on Alaskan oil fields at Prudhoe Bay. One player takes the part of the ESA attackers, while the other plays the American defenders. Players have an ability to purchase 30 points of units, and can choose from outposts, recon sleds, hovercraft, tanks, infantry, orbital platforms, recon satellites and missiles. There are five modes of transportation, all of which have differing abilities to traverse the four types of terrain (tundra, mud, ice and water). Terrain can be converted from one type to another as a result of combat. A metagame can serve a broad range of purposes, and may be tied to the way a game relates to various aspects of life. ''Magia i Miecz'' (; ''Magic and Sword'') was a Polish magazine dedicated to RPG games. It was the first and longest existing magazine of this type in the country. It was published in 1993–2002 by Wydawnictwo MAG. It was a precursor of RPG in Poland and was influential in propagating and popularizing RPGs in the state. In 2014 the rights for the name was bought by Kuźnia Gier publisher and the magazine as again available for a few years. (SPI) in 1978 that simulates a war over resources in Antarctica. Gameplay ''War in the Ice'' is a two-player combat-oriented game in which the US and USSR begin a war over ownership of Antarctica in 1991. There are optional rules for a three-player game — the third player takes the role of the "South American Union" — as well as a science fiction option in which the U.S.-U.S.S.R. war awakes a subterranean alien civilization.
