Ice hockey is a minor sport in Mexico, but is slowly growing. Women's ice hockey is also growing in Mexico. History The game of ice hockey was played in the country for the first time in the 1960s, however, the Mexican Federation of Winter Sports () was not founded until 1984. Mexico joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on 30 April 1985. It is the third North American nation after Canada and the United States to join the IIHF. The Spain men's national junior ice hockey team () is the national men's junior under-20 ice hockey team of Spain. The team is controlled by the Federación Española de Deportes de Hielo, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation. History Spain played its first game in 1984 against Great Britain during the Pool C tournament of the 1984 IIHF World U20 Championship. Spain won the game 7–3 and finished the tournament in fourth place. After competing in their second World U20 Championships in 1985 Spain did not send a team for the 1986 IIHF World U20 Championship. The 1997 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships were held in Geneva and Morges, Switzerland. The tournament was won by Canada, who won their record fifth-straight gold medal with a 2–0 victory over the United States in the gold-medal match. IIHF World Women's Championships
The IIHF Women's World Championship is the premier international women's tournament in ice hockey. It is governed by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The official world competition was first held in 1990, with four more championships held in the 90s. From 1989 to 1996, and in years that there was no world tournament held, there were European Championships and in 1995 and 1996 a Pacific Rim Championship. From the first Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Tournament in 1998 onward, the Olympic tournament was played instead of the IIHF Championships. Afterwards, the IIHF decided to hold Women's Championships in Olympic years, starting in 2014, but not at the top level.
