Ian Copeland
Ian Adie Copeland (April 25, 1949 – May 23, 2006) was a British-American music promoter and booking agent who helped launch the new wave movement in the United States. Early life Copeland was born in Rif Dimashq near Damascus, Syria, the second of four children born to American CIA officer Miles Copeland Jr. and his British wife Lorraine Copeland (née Adie), an archaeologist. His older brother Miles Copeland III founded I.R.S. Records and his younger brother Stewart Copeland is the drummer in The Police. His younger sister Lorraine (nicknamed "Lennie") is a writer and producer. After a wayward youth growing up in the Middle East, where he was part of a gang involved in petty crime, Copeland enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 at the height of the Vietnam War. Rif Dimashq Governorate
Rif Dimashq Governorate (, Literal translation, lit. "Damascus Countryside Governorate" or "Damascus Suburb") is one of the fourteen Governorates of Syria, governorates (provinces) of Syria. It is situated in the southwestern part of the country. Paragon Booking Agency
Paragon Booking Agency was a musical talent management company based in Macon, Georgia, United States. It was one of the largest booking agencies in the Southeast. In the late 1970s, Ian Copeland, a music promoter, and Bill Berry, future member of R.E.M., worked for the company. History Paragon took advantage of the success of Capricorn Records, which was founded in Macon, Georgia, in 1969 by Phil Walden and Frank Fenter. Alex Hodges, who founded Paragon, met Walden at Mercer University. Hodges saw new wave music arriving and said, according to Mike Mills, future bassist with R.E.M., 'We don't have anybody here who understands that. Find my somebody that knows this stuff.'" The Mission (known as the Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Concrete Blonde was an American rock band from Hollywood, California. They were active from 1982 to 1994 and reunited twice: first from 2001 to 2004, then from 2010 to 2012. They were best known for their album ''Bloodletting'' (1990), its top-20 single "Joey," and Johnette Napolitano's distinctive vocal style. Career Singer-songwriter and bassist Johnette Napolitano first formed a group with former Sparks bassist James Mankey on guitar in Los Angeles in 1982. Nine Inch Nails, commonly abbreviated as NIN (stylized as NIИ), is an American industrial rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988. Buzzcocks
Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto formed in Manchester in 1976. During their career, the band combined elements of punk rock, power pop, and pop punk. They achieved commercial success with singles that fuse pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy; these singles were later collected on '' Singles Going Steady'', an acclaimed compilation album music journalist and critic Ned Raggett described as a "punk masterpiece".
