Ian Bairnson
John "Ian" Bairnson (3 August 1953 – 7 April 2023) was a Scottish musician and member of Pilot and the Alan Parsons Project. He was a multi-instrumentalist, who played saxophone and keyboards, but mainly performed as a guitarist, which he played with a sixpence. In addition to his work with Parsons, Bairnson played guitar on four Kate Bush albums, including the guitar solo on her 1978 debut single, "Wuthering Heights". Early life Bairnson was born in Lerwick, Shetland, on 3 August 1953. He grew up in Levenwick, also in Shetland, before his family moved to Edinburgh, Midlothian, when he was nine years old, following the death of his father. Lerwick
Lerwick ( or ; ; ) is the main town and port of the Shetland archipelago, Scotland. Shetland's only burgh, Lerwick had a population of about 7,000 residents in 2010. Bay City Rollers
The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity, as a band in the 1970s. One of many 70s acts heralded as the "biggest group since the Beatles", they were called the "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh", and sold 5 million albums. Their classic line-up during their peak popularity, included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood (musician), Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir and his younger brother Derek Longmuir on drums. ''The Secret'' is the fifth solo album by English rock musician Alan Parsons. It was released on 26 April 2019 via Frontiers. Guest appearances include guitarist Steve Hackett on the first track, Jason Mraz singing on "Miracle", and Lou Gramm singing on "Sometimes". The roots of the song "I Can't Get There From Here" go back to the year 2002, when Alan Parsons was asked to do the music for the film "5-25-77" by Patrick Read Johnson. Alan Parsons Live
Alan Parsons Live is the first live album by Alan Parsons, recorded in May 1994 during his European tour, and released late that year by Arcade Records in Europe. RCA/BMG added three new studio tracks and changed the cover art when releasing the album in the rest of the world in 1995, renaming it The Very Best Live; stylized on the cover with "The Very Best" in a smaller font between Alan Parsons and Live. Despite the tour promoting ''Try Anything Once'' with seven songs from the album in the setlist, the live performances on the album are all songs from his years with The Alan Parsons Project. ''Try Anything Once'' is the first solo album by Alan Parsons, released in 1993. It was his first album following the split of the Alan Parsons Project. This album features vocals by Ambrosia's David Pack, Jacqui Copland, former Mindbender and 10cc guitarist Eric Stewart, and Manfred Mann's Earth Band frontman Chris Thompson. The album features completely digital recording and mixing. It was recorded at Parson's first "Parsonics" studio in Sussex England with the orchestra recorded at Air Studios in London. There is an Easter egg inside the inlay. One of the pictures is a stereogram; when the viewer looks at it correctly, an image of a man and woman upside down will appear, similar to the other pictures in the album's artwork. ''I Robot'' is the second studio album by British Rock music, rock band the Alan Parsons Project, released on 8 July 1977 by Arista Records. The album draws conceptually on author Isaac Asimov's science fiction Robot series, ''Robot'' stories, exploring philosophical themes regarding artificial intelligence. Background and concept The album was intended to be based on the ''I, Robot'' stories written by Asimov, and Eric Woolfson spoke with Asimov himself, who was enthusiastic about the idea. As the rights already had been granted to a TV/movie company, the album's title was altered slightly by removing the comma in "I," and the theme and lyrics were made to be more generically about robots rather than to be specific to the Asimov universe. Stuart Tosh
Stuart Mcbeath Tosh (born 26 September 1948) is a Scottish drummer, songwriter and vocalist. He recorded and toured with a succession of bands during the 1970s and 1980s, including Pilot, The Alan Parsons Project, 10cc, Camel, and Roger Daltrey. Biography Tosh was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was a founding member of the 1970s band Pilot, who achieved commercial success in 1974 and 1975 with Magic and January respectively. The band split up in 1977, and Tosh rejoined again, from 2007 to 2015. From 1975 to 1977, Tosh contributed drums and percussion to tracks by The Alan Parsons Project. He served three tenures as drummer with the group 10cc (1977-1981, 1982-1983, 1993-1995), and played on all 10cc releases from Bloody Tourists (1978) onwards. Alan Parsons
Alan Parsons (born 20 December 1948) is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Parsons was the sound engineer on albums including the Beatles' ''Abbey Road'' (1969) and '' Let It Be'' (1970), Pink Floyd's ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, the Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been commercially successful. Magic (Pilot Song)
"Magic" is a 1974 song by Scottish pop rock band Pilot and was the first hit single for the group. It was written by band members David Paton and Billy Lyall for their debut album, '' From the Album of the Same Name''. Background According to Paton, the song is inspired by the sunrise on Blackford Hill in Edinburgh. In a 2012 interview with Hotdisc Television, Paton also stated that at the time, his wife said she had "never seen a daybreak", which also inspired the song.
