ITU Telecom World 2006
ITU Telecom World 2006 () was a large-scale convention and exhibition hosted by Hong Kong, on 4–8 December 2006 at the AsiaWorld–Expo in Hong Kong. The 2006 ITU Telecom World convention was the first time the exhibition is held outside Geneva. ITU Telecom World is the most important event of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for worldwide telecom industry and it is held every 3 to 4 years. Since its first hosting in 1971 in Geneva, Switzerland, it had never been held elsewhere. According to the Hong Kong Government, this event attracted more than 61,958 individuals from overseas and brought in revenues of approximately HK$900 million. AsiaWorld–Expo
The AsiaWorld–Expo is one of the two major convention and exhibition facilities in Hong Kong along with Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was opened on 21 December 2005 by Donald Tsang, the second Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and it is operated by AsiaWorld–Expo Management Limited. It is located on Chek Lap Kok island, next to the Hong Kong International Airport. History The complex was built under a public–private partnership involving the Hong Kong government, landowner Airport Authority Hong Kong, and a consortium led by private company Dragages et Travaux Publics. ITU Telecom World
ITU Telecom is part of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. ITU Telecom organizes the global ITU Telecom World event, the platform for innovation showcasing, high-level debate, knowledge sharing and networking for the governments, industry leaders, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and regulators that form part of the world's ICT community. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, commonly known as the Hong Kong Government or HKSAR Government, refers to the executive authorities of Hong Kong SAR. Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) is a television broadcasting company based in Hong Kong SAR. The Company operates five free-to-air terrestrial television channels in Hong Kong, with TVB Jade as its main Cantonese language service, and TVB Pearl as its main English service. TVB is headquartered at TVB City at the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. TVB commenced broadcasting on November 19, 1967. TVB Jade (), or simply Jade, is a Hong Kong Cantonese-language free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) as its flagship service, alongside its sister network, the English-language TVB Pearl. TVB Pearl
TVB Pearl is a terrestrial television channel in Hong Kong owned by Television Broadcasts Limited. Established on 19 November 1967, it shares headquarters with TVB's other properties at TVB City at 77 Chun Choi Street in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate in Tseung Kwan O, in the Sai Kung District. This channel mainly broadcasts in English (while all of its sister channels mainly broadcast in Cantonese), although programmes in other languages (including Mandarin, Japanese and Korean) are aired in non-peak hours and Traditional Chinese subtitles are available on some programmes. Since 1991, the channel has used NICAM digital audio (and later, multiple audio tracks via digital terrestrial television) to transmit audio tracks in English and Cantonese when available.
