INS Kadamba
INS ''Kadamba'' or Naval Base Karwar is an Indian Navy base located near Karwar in Karnataka. The base, which was commissioned on 31 May 2005, is being developed under the codename, Project Seabird. The Phase I of the project was completed in 2011 while the Phase IIA commenced after 2017 and is underway as of 2025. On completion of Phase IIA, the base will have a capacity of basing 32 warships besides other auxiliary crafts. The base also has the country's first shiplift and transfer system for docking and undocking ships and submarines. Upon completion of its development following Phase II-B, the naval base will be the largest of its kind in the eastern hemisphere with a capacity of 50 warships. Karwar is a coastal City and the administrative headquarters of Uttara Kannada district, formerly part of the Bombay Presidency, located at the mouth of the Kali River (Karnataka), Kali river along the Konkan Coast in the present-day state of Karnataka, India. Etymology Karwar, also known locally as "Kādwād", derived its name from the nearby village of "Kade-Wādā". In the local Konkani language, Konkani, ''Kade'' means "Last" and ''Wādā'' means "Ward". Hence, ''Kade-Wādā'' ("the last neighbourhood") referred to the southernmost Konkani-speaking village. During the British Raj, Crown rule in India, the name "Karwar" was spelt as "Carwar". Kolkata Port
The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SPMP or SMP, Kolkata), formerly the Kolkata Port, is the only riverine major port in India, in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, around from the sea. It is the oldest operating port in India and was constructed by the British East India Company. Kolkata is a freshwater port with no variation in salinity. The port has two distinct dock systems – Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex. In the 19th century, the Kolkata Port was the premier port in British India. Oscar Stanley Dawson
Admiral Oscar Stanley Dawson (13 November 1923 – 23 October 2011) was a four-star admiral in the Indian Navy. He served as the 10th Chief of the Naval Staff from 1 March 1982 to 30 November 1984. From 1983 until his retirement, he also served as the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Indian Armed Forces. He previously served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Southern Naval Command and as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF). Dawson was also the Director of Naval Operations during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. After retirement, Dawson served as the Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand. He also campaigned for a number of environmental causes and worked on the rehabilitation of disabled people.
