IFK Ã…mÃ¥l is a Swedish football club located in Ã…mÃ¥l in Västra Götaland County. Background Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Ã…mÃ¥l is a sports club from Ã…mÃ¥l that was founded in 1908. The club specialises in football and handball. At one time the club also participated in bandy and in 1959 played in Sweden's top division. The football club played in Sweden's second-highest division in the 1927/28 season. Since their foundation IFK Ã…mÃ¥l has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system. The club currently plays in Division 2 Norra Götaland which is the fourth tier of Swedish football. They play their home matches at the Örnäsvallens IP in Ã…mÃ¥l. Åmål () is a urban areas of Sweden, locality and the seat of Åmål Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 9,065 inhabitants in 2010. It is situated on the western shore of Vänern. In 2005 Åmål received second prize in the international competition The International Awards for Liveable Communities (also known as the LivCom Awards). The Åmåls Blues Fest has been held annually in Åmål since 1992. Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna (English: Sporting Society Comrades), usually abbreviated IFK, is a central organisation for many sports clubs in Sweden. There are also eight IFK clubs in Finland but they are organised separately. The Swedish IFK was founded 1 February 1895 and has 164 member clubs with around 100,000 members as of 2004. The best known IFK club in football is probably the one in Gothenburg, IFK Göteborg, which won the UEFA Cup twice in the 1980s.
