Åmål
Åmål () is a urban areas of Sweden, locality and the seat of Åmål Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 9,065 inhabitants in 2010. It is situated on the western shore of Vänern. In 2005 Åmål received second prize in the international competition The International Awards for Liveable Communities (also known as the LivCom Awards). The Åmåls Blues Fest has been held annually in Åmål since 1992. History Åmål was founded in the 17th century by Christina of Sweden, Queen Christina, and became one of the now defunct Cities of Sweden on April 1, 1643, and the only city in the historical province of Dalsland. Its location close to the borders of the Denmark-Norway alliance made it vulnerable to attack and it accordingly suffered over the ensuing centuries: first in 1645, when it was almost completely demolished, again in 1676 and 1679; and the last time in 1788 when it was conquered by the Danes, who then held it for a short while. Åmål Municipality () is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the stad (Sweden), city of Åmål. The present municipality was created in 1971 through the amalgamation (politics), amalgamation of the former ''City of Åmål'' and the former rural municipality of Tössbo (the latter created in 1952). Geography and natural resources The stad (Sweden), city of Åmål is located in a scenic bay of Vänern, Lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden. ''Show Me Love'' () is a 1998 Swedish romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Lukas Moodysson in his feature-length directorial debut. It stars Rebecka Liljeberg and Alexandra Dahlström as two seemingly disparate teenage girls who begin a tentative romantic relationship. The film was released theatrically in Sweden on 23 October 1998, and premiered internationally at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. IFK Åmål is a Swedish football club located in Åmål in Västra Götaland County. Background Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Åmål is a sports club from Åmål that was founded in 1908. The club specialises in football and handball. At one time the club also participated in bandy and in 1959 played in Sweden's top division. The football club played in Sweden's second-highest division in the 1927/28 season. Bengt Anders Valter (Bengtolle) Oldinger (November 3, 1911, in Åmål – March 31, 1988, in Stockholm) was a Swedish painter, teacher, and draftsman. Early life After training as an elementary school teacher at the and as an opera singer, he studied painting with Otte Sköld in Stockholm in 1937, and with André Lhote in Paris in 1947 and 1951. He was a teacher in until 1949. Career Primarily, Oldinger painted in oil and acrylic, and was a draftsman who captured people in motion with a few lines. Karl Fredrik Lukas Moodysson (; born 17 January 1969) is a Swedish filmmaker, novelist, and short story writer. Rut Berglund
Rut Berglund, also Ruth Berglund (12 April 1897 – 29 August 1984) was a Swedish operatic mezzo-soprano and contralto, who was engaged in Germany from 1924 to 1944. She was personally appointed Kammersängerin by Adolf Hitler. Life and career Born in Åmål, Berglund studied singing with Gillis Bratt in Stockholm and with Ernst Grenzebach in Berlin. In the 1924–25 season she was engaged as a volunteer at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, but due to hyperinflation the house was closed in 1925. The singer subsequently made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, received a permanent engagement at this house and remained a member of the ensemble until 1932.
