Hunx and His Punx is an American punk band from San Francisco, California. History Origins Hunx, real name Seth Bogart, started the band in 2008 after years of performing in the pop group Gravy Train!!!!. The group's sound has been compared to 1960s girl groups and is a blend of punk and bubblegum music. The band played its first national tour of the United States alongside Jay Reatard and Nobunny in 2009. Their debut singles compilation album, ''Gay Singles'', was released in 2010 on True Panther Sounds in the U.S. and Born Bad in France. New line-up In January 2010, Hunx began touring with an all-female backing band. This configuration was identified on tour and in new songs such as "Lovers Lane" as Hunx and His Punkettes. Seth Bogart
Seth Davis Bogart (born February 28, 1980) is an American multidisciplinary artist. As a musician, he is known for his solo work and as a member of the bands Hunx and His Punx and Gravy Train!!!!. As a visual artist, Bogart's paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in galleries across the United States. He created the World of Wonder web series ''Feelin' Fruity'' and operates the streetwear label Wacky Wacko. ''Pitchfork'' named Bogart the "New King of Camp" in 2016. Early life and career Bogart grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where his father was a lawyer and his mother was a nurse. In high school, he started playing the guitar and created the punk zine ''Puberty Strike''. He later produced the zine ''Psycho No. 1 Fan''. When Bogart was 18, his father committed suicide. He moved to Oakland, California shortly thereafter. Founded in early 2007 by Sub Pop Records, Hardly Art is run by three full-time employees and is distributed by the Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) and Sub Pop. Gravy Train!!!! were an electroclash band from Oakland, California. The band released material on the labels S.P.A.M. Records, Cold Crush, Kill Rock Stars, Cochon Records, and Retard Disco. The band had four members (represented by the four exclamation marks in the band name), that went by the pseudonyms Chunx, Funx, Hunx, and Junx. Chunx and Funx formed the band in 2001 as a vehicle for recording humiliating songs about an ex-lover. It was for this purpose that their first single, "Hella Nervous", was recorded. Shortly after, the two-piece recruited two openly gay backup dancers, Hunx and Drunx. Drunx was later replaced by Junx. True Panther Sounds (TPS) is an independent record label founded by Dean Bein in San Francisco in 2004. The label eventually moved to New York, and was acquired by Matador Records of Beggars Group in 2009, remaining under that umbrella until 2017. The label has worked with artists of various genres, including notable acts such as ABRA, Celeste, Glasser, Girls, King Krule, Tobias Jesso Jr., Shlohmo, and Slowthai. History True Panther Sounds was founded in 2004 by Dean Bein, Molly Samuel, and Avi Klein, who at the time were also bandmates in Red Tape Apocalypse. Shannon and the Clams is an indie garage punk quartet based in Oakland, California. Known for a vintage sound that incorporates elements of doo-wop, classic R&B, garage psych, and surf, Shannon and the Clams has drawn comparisons to both Buddy Holly and 1960s girl groups. They are also said to love "music from '50s oldies to '80s punk". Rob's House Records is an American record label based out of Atlanta, Georgia. It was created in 2005 by Trey Lindsay to cater to the unique, but underexposed growing underground music scene in Atlanta, Ga. Rob's House Records caters to many genres of music including punk, indie rock, math rock, folk, and electronic. Its primary release format is 7-inch records. History The name Rob's House Records comes from the record label designation on a split 7-inch record released by Atlanta bands The Orphins and The Liverhearts in 2003. Nobunny was the stage persona of musician Justin Champlin, performing under the moniker since 2001. His debut LP, '' Love Visions'', was home recorded and released in 2008 on Bubbledumb Records to positive reviews. It was re-released with 1-2-3-4 Go! James Lee Lindsey Jr. (May 1, 1980 – January 13, 2010), known professionally as Jay Reatard, was an American musician from Memphis, Tennessee. He was signed to Matador Records. He released recordings as a solo artist and as a member of the Reatards and Lost Sounds. Biography Early life Lindsey was born in Lilbourn, Missouri, on May 1, 1980. He and his family moved to Memphis when he was 8 years old, since his father struggled to find employment in his hometown. His recording career began at age 15, when a homemade demo tape he sent to Goner Records caught the ear of Eric Friedl, Oblivian band member and Goner Records' owner. Lindsey heard Friedl and the Oblivians bandmates earlier that year when they returned home to Memphis as the opening act for Rocket from the Crypt.
