Budapest indie music scene was the indie music scene of Budapest, Hungary in the 2000s. It was often associated with bands like Amber Smith (band), Amber Smith, The Moog, EZ Basic and We Are Rockstars (band), We Are Rockstars. History Beginnings The early 2000s was the revival of the indie music scene all over the world, which affected Hungary as well. One of the earliest Hungarian band playing indie rock were The Puzzle (band), The Puzzle from Kaposvár. They were the first band whose record, entitled ''Dream Your Life'', was released by an international label, PolyGram in 2000. Successes On 10 March 2006, Amber Smith (band), Amber Smith's third studio album, ''RePRINT (album), RePRINT'', was released by the German people, German Kalinkaland Records. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. The Poster Boy
The Poster Boy is a Hungarian indie rock band from Budapest, Hungary. The band's line-up consists of Imre Poniklo from the Budapest-based indie-rock band Amber Smith, Noel R. Mayer from the alternative rock band, The Walrus, and Michael Zwecker from the Pécs-based alternative rock band Kispál és a borz plus Zoltán Fehér "Szegecs". The band members decided to form a band while chatting about the Hungarian indie scene in a bar in Budapest. In a couple of months they wrote several songs which were recorded in late 2011. Imre Poniklo
Imre Poniklo (born 16 October 1974) is a musician, best known as the lead singer, songwriter, lyricist and guitarist of Amber Smith. He is also a solo artist under the name Poniklo. As a singer, Poniklo's voice lies in the baritone range. Early life and personal life Poniklo was born in Budapest, Hungary. He grew up in Csepel. His father was a sewing machine-engineer. He started becoming interested in pop music at the age of 12. Since 1988 he has been a big fan of the Manchester artists such as The Smiths and Morrissey. However, his first vinyl record was of Pet Shop Boys' Actually. Poniklo attended the School of Journalism of Bálint György for one year. However, after one year he realized that journalism is not his field. In 1995 he became friends with József Simon, who has been the album designer of Amber Smith, after seeing his advertisement in the Magyar Narancs. Fran Palermo
Fran Palermo is a Hungarian indie rock band. It was formed by the singer-songwriter Henri Gonzo in late 2011 in Budapest, Hungary. The band's music and style are characterized by different genres, mostly by indie, rock and roll, afro pop and even by Mediterranean vibes. The unique and original soundscape requires a bigger band on the stage. The specialty of the band comes not just from mixing different instruments, but from the diverse origin of the members. Carbovaris were a short-lived Hungarian indie rock band based in Budapest, Hungary, formed in 2009. The band consisted of members Ármin Jamak (vocals), Dániel Nyitray (bass), Soma Balázs (guitars), Zsombor Lehoczky (drums). History In 2012 the band's first LP was released entitled Milos. In 2013, the band was nominated as the best new act in Hungary by the Viva TV. On 6 December 2013, Carbovaris released two singles, ''Sand & Dust'' and ''Automatic/Pragmatic'', from their forthcoming album. On 12 December 2013, Carbovaris played at the A38 in Budapest, Hungary. Love And Rockets (band)
Love and Rockets are an English rock music, rock band formed in 1985 by former Bauhaus (band), Bauhaus members Daniel Ash (vocals, guitar and saxophone), David J (bass guitar and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums and synthesisers) after that group split in 1983. Ash and Haskins had recorded and performed in another band, Tones on Tail, between 1982 and 1984. Love and Rockets's style is a fusion of underground rock music with elements of pop music.
