The Louis Philippe Plateau () is a plateau, about long and wide, which rises to and occupies the central part of Trinity Peninsula, Antarctica, between Russell West Glacier and Windy Gap. Location The Louis Philippe Plateau is in Graham Land in the central spine of the Trinity Peninsula, which forms the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Marescot Ridge and Lafond Bay are to the north, Broad Valley and the Laclavère Plateau are to the east, the Cugnot Ice Piedmont and Russell East Glacier are to the south and Russell West Glacier and Srednogorie Heights are to the west. Features include Allen Knoll, Benz Pass, Windy Gap and Mount D'Urville. Name The name, recommended by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) in 1948, commemorates Captain Jules Dumont d'Urville's 1838 exploration of the Trinity Peninsula area, which he had named "Terre Louis Philippe," after Louis Philippe I, the King of France at the time. Trinity Peninsula
Trinity Peninsula is the northernmost part of the Antarctic Peninsula. It extends northeastward for about 130 km (80 mi) to Cape Dubouzet from an imaginary line connecting Cape Kater on the north-west coast and Cape Longing on the south-east coast. Prime Head is the northernmost point of this peninsula. Some 20 kilometers southeast of Prime Head is Hope Bay, Antarctica, Hope Bay with the year-round Argentinian Esperanza Base. History It was first sighted on 30 January 1820 by Edward Bransfield, Master, Royal Navy, immediately after his charting of the newly discovered South Shetland Islands nearby. Malorad Glacier
Marescot Point () is a small but distinctive low rocky point projecting north from Trinity Peninsula, Antarctica, east of Thanaron Point. Location Marescot Point is on the north shore of Trinity Peninsula, which itself is the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. It faces Astrolabe Island in the Bransfield Strait on a relatively straight stretch of coast between Bone Bay to the west and Lafond Bay to the east. The Louis Philippe Plateau is inland, to the south. Inland and coastal features between Bone Bay and Lafond Bay include, from west to east, Hanson Hill, Thanaron Point, Corner Peak, Crown Peak and Marescot Ridge. Offshore features of the coastal stretch include Duparc Rocks, Hombron Rocks and Jacquinot Rocks. Christian Gottlieb Ferdinand Ritter von Hochstetter (30 April 1829 – 18 July 1884) was a Germany, German-Austrians, Austrian geologist. In 1857 he was appointed geologist on the Austrian Novara expedition to New Zealand, collecting natural history specimens and producing the first geological map of New Zealand. Career Von Hochstetter was born in Esslingen am Neckar, Esslingen, then in the kingdom of Württemberg, to Christian Ferdinand and his second wife, Sophie Orth. His father was a parson who also published on botanical and geological subjects. Russell West Glacier () is a glacier, long and wide, which lies immediately north of Detroit Plateau and flows from Mount Canicula westward into Bone Bay, on the north side of Trinity Peninsula. This glacier together with Russell East Glacier, which flows eastward into Prince Gustav Channel on the south side of Trinity Peninsula, form a through glacier across the north part of Antarctic Peninsula. Erul Heights () are the heights rising to at Gigen Peak, located on Trinity Peninsula in Graham Land, Antarctica. Location The Erul Heights are in Graham Land towards the west of the south coast of the Trinity Peninsula, which forms the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
