Hugh Royer Jr.
William Hugh Royer Jr. (August 19, 1936 – September 12, 2014) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Royer was born in Eastman, Georgia. During his youth, his family moved to Columbus, Georgia, where he learned the game of golf from Fred Haskins and Charlie Harper at the Columbus Country Club. He attended the University of Georgia in Athens where his love for the sport of golf was further nurtured by the legendary coach Howell Hollis. While a student at Georgia, Royer was a standout basketball player and captain of the golf team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) degree in 1959. In 1958, he won the Georgia State Amateur and the Southern Amateur tournaments. He turned pro in 1959 and won the St. Charles Open in his first pro event. Eastman, Georgia
Eastman is a city in Dodge County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,962 at the 2010 census. Named after one of the founders who contributed a site and paid for the county courthouse, the city was established in 1871, and is the county seat of Dodge County. In the 19th century, this was a center of the timber and sawmill industry. During the Great Depression in 1937, the first Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe, once well-known along roadways throughout the United States, was founded in Eastman. History The first permanent settlement of the area took place in 1840. The population continued to grow when, in 1869, a station was built for the newly constructed Macon and Brunswick Railroad which passed through the area, stimulating an economic boom. Hugh Royer III
Hugh Royer III (born February 13, 1964) is an American professional golfer and golf instructor. He is the son of Hugh Royer Jr., who played on the PGA Tour for 14 years and won the 1970 Western Open. Royer was born in Columbus, Georgia and spent the majority of his childhood traveling with his father on Tour. Royer received a scholarship to Mississippi State University where he played for two years. In those two seasons, Royer had one tournament win and seven top-10 finishes, and held the low stroke average each year. He then transferred to Columbus State University for his junior and senior years, where his father served as head golf coach. He was NCAA Division II Player of the Year and First Team All-American in 1985 and 1986. He was named 1987 Amateur Player of the Year by the Carolinas Golf Reporter. Dale Douglass
Dale Dwight Douglass (March 5, 1936 – July 6, 2022) was an American professional golfer who won tournaments at both the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour level. Douglass was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He grew up in Fort Morgan, Colorado, where graduated from high school in 1956. Douglass graduated from University of Colorado in 1959, turned pro in 1960, and joined the PGA Tour in 1963. He played on the 1969 Ryder Cup team. Douglass won three times and earned $573,351 in just under 25 years on the PGA Tour. His best finish in a major championship was T-13 at the 1969 U.S. Open. His fortunes improved dramatically when he reached the age of 50 and joined the Senior PGA Tour (now known as the PGA Tour Champions). In this venue, Douglass had 11 wins including the 1986 U.S. Senior Open and accumulated approximately $7 million in earnings. Douglass lived in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
