Hrym
Hrymr (also Hrym or Rym) is a jötunn in Norse mythology. During the Eschatology, final battle of Ragnarök, Hrym will bring with him all the legions of the jötnar (giants) toward the field of Vígríðr to confront the Æsir (gods). Name The etymology of the Old Norse name ''Hrym'' is unclear. Andy Orchard has proposed the meaning 'decrepit'. Jan de Vries (linguist), Jan de Vries argues that a relation with ''hrumr'' ('weak, fragile') is Semantics, semantically questionable. Attestations In ''Völuspá'' (Prophecy of the Völva), Hrym plays a major role in the apocalyptic events of Ragnarök. In Norse mythology, ''Naglfar'' or ''Naglfari'' (Old Norse " nail farer") is a boat made entirely from the fingernails and toenails of the dead. ''Völuspá'' (also ''Vǫluspá'', ''Vǫlospá'', or ''Vǫluspǫ́''; Old Norse: 'Prophecy of the völva, a seeress') is the best known poem of the ''Poetic Edda''. In Norse mythology, Gylfi (Old Norse: ), ''Gylfe'', ''Gylvi'', or ''Gylve'' was the earliest recorded king of Sviþjoð, Sweden, in Scandinavia. He is known by the name Gangleri when appearing in disguise. The Danish tradition on Gylfi tells how he was tricked by Gefjon and her sons from Jötunheim, who were able to shapeshift into tremendous oxen. ''Gylfaginning'' (Old Norse: 'The Beguiling of Gylfi' or 'The Deluding of Gylfi'; 13th century Old Norse pronunciation ) is the first main part of the 13th century ''Prose Edda'', after the initial Prologue. In Germanic paganism, a seeress is a woman said to have the ability to foretell future events and perform sorcery. Jan Pieter Marie Laurens de Vries (11 February 1890 – 23 July 1964) was a Dutch philologist, linguist, religious studies scholar, folklorist, educator, writer, editor and public official who specialized in Germanic studies.
