Howard Scott (engineer)
Howard Scott (April 1, 1890 – January 1, 1970) was an American researcher and founder of the philosophy of Technocracy. He formed the Technical Alliance and Technocracy Incorporated. Early life Little is known about Scott's early life and he has been described as a "mysterious young man". He was born in Virginia in 1890 and was of Scottish-Irish ancestry. He claimed to have been educated in Europe, but his training did not include any formal higher education. In 1918, soon before the end of the First World War, Scott appeared in New York City. Scott worked in various construction camps, where he acquired some engineering experience, and in 1918 was working with a cement pouring group at Muscle Shoals. After this, Scott established himself in Greenwich Village as "a kind of Bohemian engineer". Howard Scott is a Canadian literary translator. He is most noted as co-winner with Phyllis Aronoff of the Governor General's Award for French to English translation at the 2018 Governor General's Awards for ''Descent Into Night'', their translation of Edem Awumey's novel ''Explication de la nuit''. They were previously nominated in the same category at the 2009 Governor General's Awards for ''A Slight Case of Fatigue'', their translation of Stéphane Bourguignon's ''Un peu de fatigue''. ''City Lights'' is a British comedy-drama broadcast on ITV starring Robson Green and Mark Benton. The show is a sequel to the 2006 series '' Northern Lights'' (a spin-off of the Christmas special ''Christmas Lights''), and a prequel to the 2008 TV film ''Clash of the Santas''. Plot As in the previous series, Green and Benton play Colin Armstrong and Howie Scott, two best friends since childhood who are married to two sisters, Jackie (played by Nicola Stephenson) and Pauline (played by Siân Reeves).
