Holbrook, Derbyshire
Holbrook is a village in Derbyshire at the southern end of the Pennines around five miles north of Derby, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,538. History Holbrook lies about two miles to the north-east of Duffield, Derbyshire, Duffield, the parish of which it was a part, being within Duffield Frith. When the latter was seized by King Henry III of England, King Henry III following the rebellion of Robert de Ferrers, 6th Earl of Derby it appears to have been spared. However it became the property of Edmund Crouchback along with the rest of the Frith. It was sold by the Crown to various local copyholders in the reign of King Charles I of England, Charles I. It included the Messuage, capital messuage, called ''Cocksbench'', or ''Coxbench Hall''. The Culcairn to Holbrook railway line is a short, closed, railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The line ran from the Main South railway line at Culcairn for 26 km east to the town of Holbrook. Construction Following the line from Culcairn to Corowa being completed in 1892, the locals of Germanton campaigned hard for their own railway line. The line was authorised early in 1901 with surveying being worked on up until March. Tenders for supplies were accepted from April through June with construction starting in July. The line opened on 18 September 1902. Holbrook was, at that time, known as Germanton. Holbrook-Palmer Estate, also known as Elmwood is a historic estate and public park located at 150 Watkins Avenue in Atherton, California (the town was previously named Fair Oaks). The water tower (c.1883) and the carriage house (c.1897) were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 26, 2016. History Charles C. Holbrook (1830–1926) was a successful wholesale hardware and mining supply store owner in San Francisco, he created the grand rural estate of Elmwood in the late 19th century. Beginning in 1883, the Holbrook family would summer in the house together and occasionally visit on the weekends during the slower seasons. In 1926, Olive Holbrook Palmer (1878–1958) inherited the estate which was then named "Elmwood" which she used as her summer home with her spouse Silas H. Palmer (1874–1963). Holbrook Company of Hudson, New York manufactured custom automobile bodies and their leading customer was Packard Motor Company. Founded Harry F Holbrook and John D Graham set up this business to make custom automobile bodies on the west side of New York City in 1908. Holbrook left the business in 1913 and Jack Graham became sole owner and began attracting more orders from Packard's New York branch. Holbrook Creek is a creek in east central Yukon, Canada. The landscape surrounding Holbrook Creek lies in the Fort Selkirk Volcanic Field of the Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province. During the Pleistocene period, a basaltic lava flow from the Fort Selkirk field engulfed the mouth of the Holbrook Creek. Remnants of this lava flow are exposed along the Yukon River for about one kilometre. Holbrook is a small town in Southern New South Wales, Australia. It is on the Hume Highway, by road North East of Melbourne and by road south-west of Sydney between Tarcutta and Albury. The town is in the Greater Hume Shire which was established in May 2004 from the merger of Culcairn Shire with the majority of Holbrook Shire and part of the Hume Shire. At the 2016 census, Holbrook had a population of 1,715 people. The district around Holbrook is renowned for local produce including merino wool, wheat and other grains, lucerne, fat cattle and lamb.
