Himalayan Adventure Challenge
Himalayan Adventure Challenge is an adventure race held every year in India. It is considered an extreme sport because its held on slopes of Himalayas range. Its a Triathlon race which includes Rafting, Hiking and Mountain biking. It is an elite Obstacle course racing similar to Spartan Race which is considered toughest obstacle course race. History The events held by Aqua Terra Trust. It was started in July 2013 after 2013 Uttarakhand floods and to promote tourism in flood affected areas. From then it held every year at Atali Ganga Race track in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Events There events varies upon edition. The events can be for Individuals or team. Some races offer solo competitions as well. The principal disciplines in adventure racing include trekking, mountain biking, and paddling although races can incorporate a multitude of other disciplines including climbing, abseiling, horse riding, skiing and white water rafting. Teams generally vary in gender and in size from two to five competitors, however, the main format is considered to be mixed-gender teams of four racers. Rafting
Rafting and whitewater rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water. Dealing with risk is often a part of the experience. This activity as an adventure sport has become popular since the 1950s, if not earlier, evolving from individuals paddling to rafts with double-bladed paddles or oars to multi-person rafts propelled by single-bladed paddles and steered by a person at the stern, or by the use of oars. Spartan Race is a series of Obstacle racing, obstacle races of varying difficulty, ranging from 3 miles to ultra-marathon distances of 50k+. These races are held in the United States and have been franchised to 30 countries, including Canada, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines and several European countries. The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Spartan Super, the Spartan Beast, and the Spartan Ultra. Spartan Race has a military series that is hosted on military bases. 2013 North India Floods
In June 2013, a mid-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides, becoming the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, 2004 tsunami. The rainfall received that month was far greater than the rainfall the state usually received. Debris blocked the rivers, causing major overflow. The main day of the flood was 16 June 2013. Rishikesh
Rishikesh, also spelt as Hrishikesh, is a city near Dehradun in the Indian state Uttarakhand. The northern part of Rishikesh is in the Dehradun district while the southern part is in the Tehri Garhwal district.
