''High Times'' was an American monthly magazine (and cannabis brand) that advocates the legalization of cannabis as well as other counterculture ideas. The magazine was founded in 1974 by Tom Forcade. The magazine had its own book publishing division, High Times Books, and its own record label, High Times Records. From 1974 to 2016, ''High Times'' was published by Trans-High Corporation (THC). Hightimes Holding Corp. acquired THC and the magazine in 2017. Larry Sloman
Larry "Ratso" Sloman (born July 9, 1950) is a New York (state), New York–based author. Career Sloman was born into a middle-class American Jews, Jewish family from Queens. His nickname Ratso came from Joan Baez who said Sloman looked like Dustin Hoffman's character Ratso Rizzo in ''Midnight Cowboy'' (1969). He wrote for ''Rolling Stone'', ''Crawdaddy (magazine), Crawdaddy'', and ''Creem'' in the 1970s. He wrote a column, "Ratso's Pallazo", in ''Heavy Metal (magazine), Heavy Metal'' in 1985. Underground Press Syndicate
The Underground Press Syndicate (UPS), later known as the Alternative Press Syndicate (APS), was a network of countercultural newspapers and magazines that operated from 1966 into the late 1970s. As it evolved, the Underground Press Syndicate created an Underground Press Service, and later its own magazine. UPS members agreed to allow all other members to freely reprint their contents, to exchange gratis subscriptions with each other, and to occasionally print a listing of all UPS newspapers with their addresses. Anyone who agreed to those terms was allowed to join the syndicate. As a result, countercultural news stories, criticism, and cartoons were widely disseminated, and a wealth of content was available to even the most modest start-up paper. Big Rapids Distribution was a Detroit-based distributor focusing on underground newspapers, radical literature, and underground comix. Homestead Book Company was a publisher and wholesale distributor of books, magazines, videos, games, and novelty items. Founded in 1972 and closed in 2017, the organization was located in Seattle, Washington. They specialized in counter-cultural books and distributed over 3,000 titles to retailers as well as through their own mail-order business. ''Woodstock'' is a 1970 American documentary film of the watershed counterculture Woodstock Festival which took place in August 1969 near Bethel, New York. The film was directed by Michael Wadleigh in his directional debut. Seven editors are credited, including Thelma Schoonmaker, Martin Scorsese, and Wadleigh. ''Woodstock'' was a great commercial and critical success. It received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Schoonmaker was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing, a rare distinction for a documentary. Dan Wallin and L. A. Johnson were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound.
