Higher Intelligence Agency
Higher Intelligence Agency (HIA) is the main electronic music project of Birmingham, UK-based Robert (Bobby) Bird. The project was featured on Warp's ''Artificial Intelligence II'' compilation and went on to release the critically acclaimed albums ''Colourform'' (1993) and ''Freefloater'' (1995). Biography HIA was formed by Bird in 1992 around the same time as he and a small group of collaborators began an experimental electronic music club night called Oscillate. Bird brought his drum machines and keyboards to the club night and improvised live in-between playing records. After coming across a local label just starting up, Beyond Records, Bird produced Ketamine Entity for ''Ambient Dub Volume 1'' followed by ‘Speedlearn' and ‘Solid Motion for an EP entitled ''Speedlearn''. The Fire This Time (audio Documentary)
''The Fire This Time'' is an audio documentary on the history and consequences of the Gulf War and following economic sanctions against Iraq. Produced by filmmaker Grant Wakefield, the 2-CD set featured music from electronic artists including Michael Stearns, Pan Sonic, and Aphex Twin. Background ''The Fire This Time'' originated when Wakefield and co-writer Miriam Ryle traveled to Iraq in order to film a follow-up to Ryle's documentary ''Voices in Iraq''. Their footage, including an interview with U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator Hans-Christof von Sponeck critical of the sanctions on Iraq, was rejected by the BBC and Channel 4, with BBC World responding that they "do not accept rant pieces". Wakefield and Ryle instead produced a documentary for CD, consisting of spoken word, music, and clips of statements made by officials, journalists, media pundits and other figures such as American comedian Bill Hicks. Waveform Records is an American record label founded in 1994 in Sedona, Arizona with subsequent relocations in the San Francisco Bay Area in Mill Valley, Austin, San Diego and is currently now based in Maui. Ranking Roger
Roger Charlery (22 February 1963 – 26 March 2019), known professionally as Ranking Roger, was an English musician. He was a vocalist in the 1980s ska band the Beat (known in North America as the English Beat) and later new wave band General Public. He subsequently was the frontman for a reformed Beat lineup. The "Ranking" moniker is short for "top-ranking" or "high-ranking", and was a titular boast common amongst reggae music MCs. Early life Roger Charlery was born in Birmingham and grew up in the Small Heath area of the city. The son of Jean Baptiste Charlery and his wife Anne Marie, he was of West Indian descent; his mother and father were from Saint Lucia. David Moufang (born 1966, in Heidelberg, West Germany) is a German ambient techno musician. He records with his partner, Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network project and his solo releases as Move D.[ Profile] at Allmusic guide His other projects include Earth to Infinity, Reagenz, Koolfang, and Conjoint. Biography Moufang's early influences were space, technology, and, of course, music. After becoming proficient in percussion and guitar, he ventured into the world of early electronic music. Pete Namlook (born 25 November 1960 as Peter Kuhlmann in Frankfurt, West Germany – 8 November 2012) was an ambient and electronic music producer and composer. In 1992, he founded the German record label FAX +49-69/450464, which he oversaw. He was inspired by the music of Eberhard Weber, Miles Davis, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chopin, Wendy Carlos, Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd, and most importantly Klaus Schulze. Rotunda (Birmingham)
The Rotunda is a cylindrical highrise building in Birmingham, England. The Grade II listed building is tall and was completed in 1965. Originally designed to be an office block, by architect James A. Roberts ARIBA, it was refurbished between 2004 and 2008 by Urban Splash with Glenn Howells who turned it into a residential building, with serviced apartments on 19th and 20th floors. The building was officially reopened on 13 May 2008. History A part of the James A. Roberts design for the original Bull Ring Shopping Centre included a 12-storey circular office block. This was revised to 25 storeys, abandoning plans for a rooftop restaurant and a cinema. The design was approved and construction began on the 81 metre (265 ft) building in 1961.
