Hey Wanhaka
"Hey Wanhaka" is a song by Australian rock group King Stingray, released on 14 October 2020 as their debut and lead single from their self-titled debut studio album (2022). In Yolŋu Matha, "Hey Wanhaka" means "where you going?" or "what's happening?". The song was nominated for the 2022 Environmental Music Prize. Music video The Kayla Flett and Roy Kellaway directed music video was released on 7 December 2020. In a statement, Kellaway said "This clip tells a story of the Stingray man travelling around the Territory. The Stingray man meets up with the Lorrpu (white cockatoo) and they party and celebrate together. The cockatoo is then putting the word out to everything 'Hey Wanhaka? Whats everyone up to?'" King Stingray is an Rock music in Australia, Australian rock band from East Arnhem Region, Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. With a sound self-described as "Yolŋu surf rock", the band perform songs with lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha. King Stingray released their debut single, "Hey Wanhaka", in October 2020, and their King Stingray (album), self-titled debut album on 5 August 2022. Career Two of the band's founding members have known one another since childhood – lead vocalist Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu is the nephew of Mandawuy Yunupingu, Dr M. Yunupiŋu, and guitarist Roy Kellaway is the son of Stuart Kellaway, who were both founding members of Yothu Yindi. ''King Stingray'' is the debut studio album from Australian rock group, King Stingray. It was released on 5 August 2022 and debuted at number 6 on the ARIA Charts. Music Feeds said, "Their music combines classic and contemporary rock influences with the ancient tradition of manikay (song/songlines), which dates back tens of thousands of years." Songwriter Roy Kellaway said "Yirrŋa and I wrote this song when we were away on tour. We were thinking about our hometown Yirrkala. Yolŋu Matha
The Yolngu or Yolŋu ( or ) are an aggregation of Aboriginal Australian people inhabiting north-eastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. ''Yolngu'' means "person" in the Yolŋu languages. The terms Murngin, Wulamba, Yalnumata, Murrgin and Yulangor were formerly used by some anthropologists for the Yolngu. All Yolngu clans are affiliated with either the Dhuwa (also spelt Dua) or the Yirritja moiety. Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The Chats
The Chats are an Australian punk rock band that formed in 2016 in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. They describe their sound as "shed rock". The current band lineup is composed of guitarist Josh Hardy, drummer Matt Boggis, and bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith.
