Hever Sprint Stakes
The Hever Sprint Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years and over. It is run at Southwell over a distance of 4 furlongs and 215 yards (), and it is scheduled to take place each year in February or March. The race was first run in 2003 at Lingfield Park, and was awarded Listed status in 2007. It was switched to Southwell in 2024. Southwell Racecourse
Southwell Racecourse ( , ) is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located east of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, England. It is one of only six racecourses in the UK to have an all-weather track and is one of three courses in the UK with a Tapeta surface. Southwell previously used a track surface of Fibresand, a mixture of sand and wispy fibres before changing to Tapeta (a mixture of sand, wax and fibre) in 2021. National Hunt racing on a turf course also takes place at Southwell. In 2007, the Great Yorkshire Chase (now Skybet Chase) was held at Southwell, while Doncaster Racecourse was closed for redevelopment. Luke Morris
Luke Morris (born 20 October 1988) is an English jockey who competes in flat racing. Background Morris comes from a racing background, his grandfather Joe Tate, uncle Jason Tate and cousin Ryan Tate all being jockeys. He was born in Oxford and moved to Newmarket as a child. He began riding out for Michael Bell while still at school. He completed a course at the British Racing School and became apprenticed to Bell. Career Morris rode his first winner in November 2005 and his first big race victory came on Juniper Girl in the Northumberland Plate in 2007. Adam Kirby
Adam Kirby (born August 1988) is a retired Group 1-winning British jockey. He was brought up in Kirtling near Newmarket, on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border, where he still lives, and started riding out for James Fanshawe aged 12. He served his apprenticeship with Michael Wigham in Newmarket and won with his first professional ride on Broughton Knows at Lingfield on 1 October 2004. In his early career, he became first jockey to Walter Swinburn until Swinburn quit training. For Swinburn, he won the prestigious handicap, the John Smith's Cup, at York in 2006. Martin Joseph Dwyer (born 28 June 1975 in Aintree, Liverpool, Merseyside) is a retired English jockey who competed in flat racing, winning the 2006 Epsom Derby on Sir Percy and the 2003 Epsom Oaks on Casual Look. Career Dwyer, who was born in Liverpool, was apprenticed to trainer Ian Balding in Kingsclere, Hampshire. His first winner was Susquehanna Days at Warwick on 9 July 1993 and his first Group race winner was Halmahera in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes in 1997. Martin Harley (born 19 July 1989 in County Donegal, Ireland) is a Group 1 winning Irish jockey. Career Harley had spells as stable jockey for Mick Channon and Marco Botti, before turning freelance. His first Group 1 victory was for Channon on Samitar in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in May 2012. For Botti, he won the Prix Royal Oak the following year on Tac De Boistron, which helped him to a yearly prize money total of over £1 million for the first time. William Haggas
William Haggas is a British Thoroughbred racehorse trainer, based at Somerville Lodge stables in Newmarket, Suffolk. He is the son-in-law of the multiple champion jockey Lester Piggott. He was educated at Harrow and played cricket at Lord's for Harrow against Eton in 1977, 1978 and 1979, captaining the side in the 1979 match. He started his working life in his father's textile factory, but quit after three months and headed to Newmarket. Before taking out a licence in his own right, he learnt his trade with John Winter and Mark Prescott. He trained his first winner in 1987. James Joseph Fortune (born 14 June 1972) is a retired Irish thoroughbred jockey who in a 30-year career won over 1,800 races, including 16 Group 1s, and 1 British Classic, the 2007 St Leger. Career Fortune was apprenticed to Mike O'Neill and Luca Cumani. He was first licensed in 1987 and his first win came on 29 July 1988 at Thirsk riding Hitchenstown for Eric Alston. It was O'Neill who brought Fortune over to Britain, and his first major victory was on O'Neill's Joveworth at 50/1 in the 1989 Ayr Gold Cup, while still an apprentice, claiming 5lb. Les Arcs (24 April 2000 - 8 November 2022) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who was bred in the United States and trained in the United Kingdom. After racing with mixed results over a variety of distances (and an attempt at hurdling), the gelding emerged as a top-class performer when switched to sprint distances. In 2006 he won six races including the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup, both Group One races and was the highest-rated European sprinter of the year. Stephen Carson (born 4 June 1979 in Ballymoney, County Antrim) was a flat racing jockey who rode in England. Stephen started his career as apprentice to Michael Grassick on the Curragh in County Kildare, Ireland after graduating from RACE (the Race Apprentice Centre of Education). Tartan Lane supplied Stephen with his first winner when taking the County Wexford Publicans Apprentice Maiden at Wexford on 26 July 1996. Stephen joined Eric Wheeler's yard near Reading in England in the summer of 1997 and was successful on his first ride for the yard when scoring on Dark Menace at Brighton.
