Cherry Ghost
Cherry Ghost were an English music group which began in 2006, first as an alias for singer-songwriter Simon Aldred as a solo artist, before morphing into a full band. Their debut album, ''Thirst for Romance'', was released in July 2007 and entered the UK Album Charts at No. 7. It was nominated for an Ivor Novello Awards, Ivor Novello award as well as winning Aldred an Ivor Novello for best song "People Help the People". A second album, titled ''Beneath This Burning Shoreline'', was released in July 2010 to positive critical acclaim. Aldred, under the moniker Out Cold, released a solo album titled ''Invasion of Love'' in September 2013, featuring a markedly synthpop sound. Cherry Ghost released their third and final album ''Herd Runners'' in May 2014; Aldred last performed with Cherry Ghost in 2016 on the Marc Riley Show on BBC Radio 6 Music. Neepsend
Neepsend is a suburb of the city of Sheffield, it stands just north-west of the city centre. The main area of Neepsend covers the flood plain of the River Don from Lady's Bridge at the Wicker up to Hillfoot Bridge. The suburb falls within the Central Ward of the city. The adjacent district of Parkwood Springs is often regarded as part of the suburb. Etymology The origin of the word Neepsend is believed to come from the Old Norse language, with the word "nypr" meaning a peak, the "end" part was added as Neepsend lies in the Don valley at the termination of a high ridge which descends from Shirecliffe and over Parkwood. The morphology of the ridge was changed when an artificial ski slope was created to form the Sheffield Ski Village. The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Place Names gives the word "Nipa" as of Swedish and Norwegian origin and means a crag or steep river bank. Chamber pop (also called baroque pop and sometimes conflated with orchestral pop or symphonic pop) is a music genre that combines rock music with the intricate use of strings, horns, piano, and vocal harmonies, and other components drawn from the orchestral and lounge pop of the 1960s, with an emphasis on melody and texture. ''Beneath This Burning Shoreline'' is the second studio album by Cherry Ghost, released on 5 July 2010 via Heavenly Records. The band recorded the album themselves with Dan Austin, who co-produced their debut album ''Thirst for Romance''. The album's opening track, "We Sleep on Stones", was offered as a free music download, digital download on the band's website in May 2010. The album's twelfth track, "Diamond in the Grind", was posted on YouTube, set to a clip of Harold Lloyd's 1924 silent film ''Girl Shy'', in February 2010. A music video for the album's first single "Kissing Strangers" premiered in June 2010. Lead singer Simon Aldred describes the song as "Frank Sinatra, Sinatra-esque," adding that, "I think it's one of the best songs I've ever written... it's nice to have a single I'm really proud of."
