Helen Singer Kaplan
Helen Singer Kaplan (February 6, 1929 – August 17, 1995) was an Austrian-American sex therapist and the founder of the first clinic in the United States for sexual disorders established at a medical school. ''The New York Times'' described Kaplan as someone who was "considered a leader among scientific-oriented sex therapists. She was noted for her efforts to combine some of the insights and techniques of psychoanalysis with behavioral methods." She was also dubbed the "Sex Queen" because of her role as a pioneer in sex therapy during the sexual revolution in 1960s America, and because of her advocacy of the idea that people should enjoy sexual activity as much as possible, as opposed to seeing it as something dirty or harmful. He founded humanistic psychodrama and taught in Russia, India, and Africa. Career Gessmann received a doctorate in 1976 for his work on the factors that cause dyslexia. He founded humanistic psychodrama and was among the first to apply psychodrama with hypnosis in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions. In the last two decades of his career, he focused on the diagnosis and therapy of transgender people and was recognized as a court expert in Germany. He also established humanistic psychodrama in the field of child psychotherapy. Ruth Westheimer
Karola Ruth Westheimer (née Siegel; June 4, 1928 – July 12, 2024), better known as Dr. Ruth, was a German and American sex therapist and talk show host. Westheimer was born in Germany to a Jewish family. As the Nazis came to power, her parents sent the 10-year-old girl to a school in Switzerland for safety while they remained behind because of her elderly grandmother. Both were killed in concentration camps. After World War II, she emigrated to British-controlled Mandatory Palestine. At tall and 17 years of age, she joined the Haganah, and was trained as a sniper. The Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic (PWC) was a hospital on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, United States. It was founded by an endowment bestowed by Payne Whitney (March 20, 1876 – May 25, 1927) upon his death. Whitney was an American businessman and member of the influential Whitney family.
