Helen Of Troy (album)
''Helen of Troy'' is the sixth solo studio album by the Welsh rock musician John Cale, released in November 1975. It was the last of his three studio albums for Island Records. Content During the sessions for ''Helen of Troy'', Cale recorded two cover versions, the Ann Ronell standard " Willow Weep for Me" and the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows", both of which went unreleased. Another unused track, "Mary Lou", was released in 1977 on the compilation album '' Guts''. The album includes a cover of "Pablo Picasso" originally by the Modern Lovers, a song which Cale had produced for the band's eponymous debut studio album. At that time the Modern Lovers' version was still unreleased. Cale re-recorded "I Keep a Close Watch" in 1982 for his eighth solo studio album '' Music for a New Society''. God Only Knows
"God Only Knows" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1966 album ''Pet Sounds''. Written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher, it is a Baroque pop, baroque-style love song distinguished for its harmonic innovation and complexity, unusual instrumentation, and subversion of typical popular music conventions, both lyrically and musically. It is often praised as one of the greatest songs of all time and as the Beach Boys' finest record. ''The Island Years'' is a double CD compilation of John Cale's work during 1974 and 1975. The collection, released in 1996, is composed of the three previously released Cale albums issued by Island Records: ''Fear'', '' Slow Dazzle'' and ''Helen of Troy''. The album also includes some extra tracks, b-sides, and individual tracks from other albums but the ''Slow Dazzles last and experimental track "The Jeweller" was shortened to 4:11 (the same length as on the original LP of ''Slow Dazzle'' -- on the CD version of the album, the track's duration is 5:07). In 2007 ''The Island Years'' was reissued as a budget release, ''Gold'', with the same track listing but reduced packaging. The Manson Family (known among its members as the Family) was a Intentional community, commune, gang, and cult led by criminal Charles Manson that was active in California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group at its peak consisted of approximately 100 followers, who lived an unconventional lifestyle, frequently using psychoactive drugs, including amphetamine and hallucinogens such as Lysergic acid diethylamide, LSD. Most were young women from middle-class backgrounds, many of whom were attracted by hippie counterculture and communal living, and then Radicalization, radicalized by Manson's teachings. ''June 1, 1974'' is a live album of songs performed at the Rainbow Theatre in London on the titular date. The album is officially attributed to all principal performers Kevin Ayers, John Cale, Brian Eno and Nico, although other well-known musicians, including Mike Oldfield, Robert Wyatt, and Ollie Halsall, also contributed to the concert. The record has often been referred to as the "A.C.N.E." album, for the initials of Ayers, Cale, Nico, and Eno. Content The cover photograph was taken by Mick Rock in the foyer of the Rainbow Theatre shortly before the concert began. Judy Nylon (born Judith Anne Niland in 1948) is a multidisciplinary United States, American artist who moved to London in 1970. She was half of the Punk rock, punk rock music group Snatch, which also featured fellow American expat Patti Palladin. She had an influence on glam rock, glam, punk and no wave music in New York City and London, although the bulk of this has not been preserved in any record. ''NME''s Paul Tickell described her LP ''Pal Judy'' (1982), coproduced by Nylon and Adrian Sherwood, as "a classic rainy day bit of sound and song to drift away to." Keith Morris (photographer)
Keith Morris (15 August 1938 – 17 June 2005) was an English rock photographer. Morris was responsible for several iconic images of Marc Bolan. He photographed musical figures including Led Zeppelin, Van der Graaf Generator, Nick Drake, Janis Joplin, Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, The Albion Band, B. B. King, Jimi Hendrix, John Cale, Fred Astaire and album covers such as '' Pictures at an Exhibition'' by ELP. With the new wave of the late 1970s, Morris also photographed The Damned, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Nick Lowe, The Kursaal Flyers and Dr. Feelgood. Career Morris was born in Wandsworth, London in 1938 and he studied photography at the Guildford School of Art. He was inaccurately known in the music industry as the only professional to have photographed Nick Drake before his death in 1974. ''Music for a New Society'' is the eighth solo studio album by the Welsh musician John Cale, released in September 1982 by ZE Records and Island Records. With the suggestion from ZE Records owner Michael Zilkha, Cale performed the album mostly improvised live at Skyline Studios in New York City. The album was a creative shift after several rock-oriented albums, with sparse piano-based performances.
