Helen Burnet
Helen Christina Burnet (born 12 December 1964) is an Australian politician representing the division of Clark in the House of Assembly since the 2024 Tasmanian state election. Prior to this she was Deputy Lord Mayor of Hobart and a member of the Hobart City Council. A longtime member of the Greens, Burnet unsuccessfully ran in the 2010 and 2018 Tasmanian state elections for the party. She was elected Deputy Lord Mayor of Hobart in 2009, 2018 and 2022. In the 2010 Tasmanian state election and 2018 Tasmanian state election she unsuccessfully stood in Denison. She was also a candidate in the 2013 Australian Senate election. She was the Green candidate in Denison in the 2004 Australian federal election. In the 2024 Tasmanian state election, Burnet was the second Greens member to be elected for Clark, after Vica Bayley. 2022 Hobart City Council Election
The 2022 Hobart City Council election was held in October 2022 to elect a lord mayor, deputy lord mayor and 12 councillors to the City of Hobart. The election was held as part of the statewide local elections in Tasmania, Australia. Anna Reynolds was re-elected lord mayor with 53.41% of the vote after preferences, while Helen Burnet was re-elected deputy lord mayor. An elector poll was also held with the question of 'Do you support the University of Tasmania’s proposal to relocate the Sandy Bay campus into Hobart’s central business district?' with 7,797 (25.62%) yes votes and 22,631 (74.38%) no votes. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Tasmanian Legislative Council, Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House, Hobart, Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 35 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with seven members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors, and shares its name with one of Tasmania's federal electoral divisions. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system. Vica Bayley (born 16 June 1971) is an Australian politician. He is a Greens member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly, representing the electorate of Clark. since 2023 when he was elected in a countback of votes to replace Cassy O'Connor. Since 2024, Bayley has served as Deputy Greens Leader. Early life and career Bayley grew up on a sheep farming property in Sorell, Tasmania. He trained as a property valuer and schoolteacher, but later became involved in environmental activism and worked for The Wilderness Society. He was also spokesman for Residents Opposed to the Cable Car, a group opposed to the proposed Mount Wellington cable car.
