Hatuey is a beer from Cuba originally produced in the Modelo Brewery of the Bacardi family. History Hatuey was first brewed in 1927 in Santiago de Cuba. Beer
Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches from cereal grain—most commonly malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), rice, and oats are also used. Modelo Brewery
Modelo Brewery, designed by the Cuban architect Enrique Luis Varela, was built in 1948 for Compañia Ron Bacardi S.A.Eduardo Luis Rodriguez. ''The Havana Guide - Modern Architecture 1925-1965.'' Hatuey
Hatuey (), also Hatüey (; died 2 February 1512), was a Taíno ''Cacique'' (chief) of the Hispaniolan cacicazgo of Guanaba (in present-day La Gonave, Haiti). He lived from the late 15th until the early 16th century. Chief Hatuey and many of his tribesmen travelled from present-day La Gonave by canoe to Cuba to warn the Taíno in Cuba about the Spaniards that were arriving to conquer the island. He later attained legendary status for leading a group of natives in a fight against the invasion of the Spaniards, thus becoming one of the first fighters against Spanish colonialism in the New World. Emilio Bacardí y Moreau (1844–1922) was a Cuban industrialist, politician, and writer who managed the Bacardi Rum Company and served as the first democratically elected mayor of Santiago. Biography Emilio Bacardí y Moreau was born in Santiago de Cuba, Spanish Cuba on June 5, 1844. Emilio was the son of Don Facundo Bacardí Massó and his wife Lucía 'Amalia' Victoria Moreau, a woman from a very prosperous family of Franco-Haitian descent. His father was a businessman who in 1862 founded the Bacardi rum company that would grow into today's international corporation, Bacardi Limited. The 13th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion (13th AAA Bn) was a United States Marine Corps antiaircraft unit that served during World War II. Formed in 1942 as the 13th Defense Battalion, its original mission was to provide air and coastal defense for advanced naval bases.
