Harry Waidner
Louis Harry Waidner (November 16, 1874 in Chicago, Illinois – August 11, 1944 in Evanston, Illinois) was an American tennis player in the early 20th century. In 1903, Waidner teamed with Kreigh Collins to reach the doubles final of the U.S. Nationals, losing to Reginald Doherty and Laurence Doherty, 7–5, 6–3, 6–3. At the tennis tournament in Cincinnati, Waidner reached three finals: the 1904 singles final and doubles finals in 1901 and 1903. Kreigh Collins (tennis)
Kreigh Collins (January 1875 – November 16, 1909) was an American tennis player from Chicago at the turn of the 20th century. He was ranked No. 5 in the United States in singles in 1899, 1900, 1903 and 1904. Tennis career In 1903, he reached the doubles final with L. Harry Waidner at the U.S. National Championships (now known as the U.S. Open) which they lost to the English brothers Reginald and Laurence Doherty in three close sets, 11–9, 12–10, 6–4. The following year, 1904, Collins again reached the doubles finals, this time partnered with Raymond Little and lost in five sets to Holcombe Ward and Beals Wright. In singles, he reached the semifinals twice, in 1899 and 1905, and the quarterfinals in 1902. Laurence Doherty
Hugh Laurence Doherty (8 October 1875 – 21 August 1919) was a British tennis player and the younger brother of tennis player Reginald Doherty. He was a six-time Grand Slam champion and a double Olympic Gold medalist at the Tennis at the 1900 Summer Olympics – Mixed doubles, 1900 Summer Olympics in singles and doubles (also winning a Bronze in mixed doubles). In 1903 he became the first non-American player to win the US Open (tennis), U.S. National Championships. The Cincinnati Open (also known as the Cincinnati Masters) is an annual professional tennis event held in Cincinnati, United States. Beals Coleman Wright (December 19, 1879 – August 23, 1961) was an American tennis player who was active at the end of the 1890s and early 1900s. He won the singles title at the 1905 U.S. National Championships. Wright was a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and the older brother of American tennis player Irving Wright. Biography Beals was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 19, 1879, to George Wright, the shortstop for the Cincinnati Red Stockings and founder of the sporting goods store Wright & Ditson. Beals was the brother of Irving Wright, the 1917 and 1918 U.S. Championship mixed doubles champion.
