Harry Nilsson
Harry Edward Nilsson III (June 15, 1941 – January 15, 1994), sometimes credited as Nilsson, was an American singer-songwriter who reached the peak of his success in the early 1970s. His work is characterized by pioneering vocal overdub experiments, a return to the Great American Songbook, and fusions of Caribbean music, Caribbean sounds. Nilsson was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists to achieve significant commercial success without performing major public concerts or touring regularly. Born in Brooklyn, Nilsson moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to escape his family's poor financial situation. While working as a computer programmer at a bank, he grew interested in musical composition and close-harmony singing and was successful in having some of his songs recorded by various artists, such as the Monkees. In 1967, he debuted on RCA Victor with the LP ''Pandemonium Shadow Show'', followed by a variety of releases that included a collaboration with Randy Newman (''N ...

Aerial Ballet
''Aerial Ballet'' is the third studio album by American musician Harry Nilsson, released in July 1968. Overview ''Aerial Ballet'' was Nilsson's second album for RCA Victor, and was titled after the highwire circus act of his grandparents. It consists almost entirely of songs written by him, including "One", which later became a Number Five hit for Three Dog Night. The title of the album has been cited by Joey Kramer as the inspiration for Aerosmith's name. The most familiar track from ''Aerial Ballet'' is its one cover song, Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin. It was released as a single in North America in 1968, and reached the top forty in Canada—but initially flopped in the US. However, the song was subsequently selected for use in the Oscar-winning film ''Midnight Cowboy'' and became one of Nilsson's biggest hits as a performer, hitting the US top ten in 1969. The original opening number for ''Aerial Ballet'' was "Daddy's Song", but this track was removed (apparently wit ...

Duit On Mon Dei
''Duit on Mon Dei'' is the eleventh album by Harry Nilsson. The original title for this album was ''God's Greatest Hits'' but management at RCA Records didn't approve. The title is a punning spelling of "Do It On Monday", playing on the British Monarchy's motto '' Dieu et mon droit'' (God and my right). The pun was originally used on the cover of Ringo Starr's 1973 album '' Ringo''. ''Duit on Mon Dei'' marks the first time Nilsson acted as his own producer. Due to the record's eclectic sonics, critic Robert Christgau (negatively) likened Nilsson's production style to "an audio salesman". Despite mixed reception upon release, '' The A.V. Club'' retrospectively dubbed ''Duit on Mon Dei'' "vastly underrated". Track listing All songs written by Harry Nilsson, except where noted # "Jesus Christ You're Tall" – 1:20 (demo version; re-recorded on '' Sandman'') # "It's a Jungle Out There" – 3:57 # "Down by the Sea" – 2:30 # "Kojak Columbo" – 3:30 # "Easier for Me" – 2:30 (p ...

Pussy Cats
''Pussy Cats'' is the tenth album by American singer Harry Nilsson, released by RCA Records in 1974. It was produced by John Lennon during his " Lost Weekend" period. The album title was inspired by the bad press Nilsson and Lennon were getting at the time for being drunk and rowdy in Los Angeles. They also included an inside joke on the cover – children's letter blocks "D" and "S" on either side of a rug under a table − to spell out "drugs under the table" as a rebus. Recording and development The album was started in Los Angeles, but Lennon ultimately finished producing it in New York, where he could better control the sessions. During the recording sessions, Nilsson ruptured one of his vocal cords but chose to keep this from Lennon. He forced himself to push through the sessions, which caused even more damage, that some (including The Monkees' Micky Dolenz) say he never quite recovered from. The vocal strain is most evident on "Old Forgotten Soldier" (where he is noticeabl ...

A Little Touch Of Schmilsson In The Night
''A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night'' is a 1973 album of classic 20th-century standards sung by American singer Harry Nilsson. The album was arranged by Frank Sinatra's arranger Gordon Jenkins, and produced by Derek Taylor. This album is notable in being a standards album produced a decade before such works started to become popular again. Music and lyrics The album came about from a game Nilsson and Taylor would play, challenging each other to identify the composers of obscure songs. Richard Perry, producer of Nilsson's two previous projects (''Nilsson Schmilsson'' and ''Son of Schmilsson''), was unenthusiastic about the singer's plans for a traditional pop album, especially given the critical and commercial underperformance of the latter compared to the success of the former. He recalled years later: "The timing couldn't have been worse for him to do a god-damned standards album... twas career suicide. He had the rest of his life to do an album like that, when it wou ...

Son Of Schmilsson
''Son of Schmilsson'' is the eighth album by American singer Harry Nilsson, released in 1972 by RCA Records. Background Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, ''Nilsson Schmilsson'', but instead, he created a more eccentric work. The album was produced by Richard Perry and features musical contributions from former Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Other musicians on the recording include Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, Bobby Keys and Peter Frampton. Among the album's tracks are " You're Breakin' My Heart" and the US hit " Spaceman". Most of the sessions were extensively filmed, at the request of Nilsson. The footage was to be used for a planned documentary, titled ''Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?'', but the film was never released. The album cover features a photograph of Nilsson (dressed as a Dracula-like vampire) taken by Michael Putland at George Harrison’s home Friar Park. The album was remastered and released on ...

Cash Box Magazine
''Cashbox'', also known as ''Cash Box'', is an American music industry trade magazine, originally published weekly from July 1942 to November 1996. Ten years after its dissolution, it was revived and continues as ''Cashbox Magazine'', an online magazine with weekly charts and occasional special print issues. In addition to the music industry, the magazine covered the amusement arcade industry, including jukebox machines and arcade games. History Print edition charts (1942–1996) ''Cashbox'' was one of several magazines that published record charts in the United States. Its most prominent competitors were ''Billboard'' and ''Record World'' (known as ''Music Vendor'' prior to April 1964). Unlike ''Billboard'', ''Cashbox'' combined all currently available recordings of a song into one chart position with artist and label information shown for each version, alphabetized by label. Originally, no indication of which version was the biggest seller was given, but from October 25, 1952, ...
