Harnett Kane
Harnett Thomas Kane (November 8, 1910September 4, 1984) was a 20th-century American writer whose work focused on the history and culture of the U.S. South, particularly Louisiana and Mississippi. He is credited with 20 bestsellers, many of which were historical fiction centered on notable female protagonists. He has been described as "one of the more colorful and prolific raconteurs" to write about Louisiana history. Life and work Kane's non-fiction, including his contribution to the American Folkways series of regional profiles, is regarded as his most important work. Cornelius Harnett
Cornelius Harnett (April 10, 1723 – April 20, 1781) was an American Founding Father, politician, merchant, plantation owner, and slaveholder from Wilmington, North Carolina. He was a leading American Revolutionary statesman in the Cape Fear region, and a delegate for North Carolina in the Continental Congress from 1777 to 1779 where he signed the Articles of Confederation. Cornelius Harnett is the namesake of Harnett County, North Carolina. Personal life Harnett was born on April 10, 1723, to Cornelius and Elizabeth Harnett in Chowan County, North Carolina. Soon after he was born, his parents moved to Wilmington. As an adult, he obtained a plantation in Wilmington. He became a leading merchant there and was interested in farming, milling, and mercantile ventures. Harnett was an Episcopalian but has also been identified as a deist. Curt Harnett
Curtis "Curt" Melvin Harnett, (born 14 May 1965) is a Canadian racing cyclist. He began cycling as a way to stay in shape for hockey. He competed in four Olympic Games, winning three medals, one silver and two bronze. Harnett also has three medals from the Commonwealth Games and three medals from the Pan American Games. He held the world record for the 200 metre time trial for 11 years, bested in 2006 by Dutchman Theo Bos. After retiring from cycling in 1996, he attended the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games as a commentator for CBC Sports. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Harnett was introduced into the Lehigh Valley Velodrome Cycling Hall of Fame. He was the chef de mission for Team Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Cynthia Harnett (22 June 1893 – 25 October 1981) was an English people, English author and illustrator, mainly of children's books. She is best known for six historical novels that feature ordinary teenage children involved in events of national significance, four of them in the 15th century. They are characterised by meticulous background research and vivid evocation of history. For one of them, ''The Wool-Pack'' (1951), she won the Carnegie Medal (literary award), Carnegie Medal from the CILIP, Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book by a British subject. Joan Harnett
Joan Frances Harnett-Kindley (née Martin; born 24 February 1943) is a New Zealand former netball player and real estate agent. She began playing for Canterbury's Sacred Hart team in 1960 and was first selected to play for the country's national squad in 1963. Harnett played in three editions of the World Netball Championships in 1963, 1967 and 1971 and was named player of the tournament of the 1967 competition that New Zealand won. She stopped playing internationally in 1971 and retired three years later. William Michael Harnett (August 10, 1848 – October 29, 1892) was an American Painting, painter known for his trompe-l'œil still lifes of ordinary objects. Early life Harnett was born in Clonakilty, County Cork, Ireland, during the time of the Great Famine (Ireland), Great Famine. His father was a shoemaker. Shortly after Harnett's birth his family emigrated to America, settling in Philadelphia. He was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1868. He learned engraving at the age of seventeen, and between 1865 and 1875 he made a living first in Philadelphia and then in New York City by engraving designs on table silver for firms such as Tiffany and Company. During this period he also took night classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later, in New York City, New York, at Cooper Union and at the National Academy of Design.
