Hankede Bridge
The Hankede Bridge () is a bridge connecting Maradhoo and Gaukendi in Addu City, Seenu Atoll, Maldives. History The bridge was constructed under a $800 million dollar line of credit from the Exim Bank of India. The project was awarded to Afcons Infrastructure. Construction was officially started by Afcons on 24 October 2021. The bridge was officially handed over to the Maldivian government by India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. On 1 February 2025, the bridge was officially opened to the public. Opening delay Controversy arose after the signing ceremony after the government had announced several opening days but later backtracked. Maradhoo
Maradhoo (Dhivehi language, Dhivehi: މަރަދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of the Addu Atoll (also known as Seenu Atoll). Overview Maradhoo is located in the middle of the island chain on the Western side of Addu City. To the North are Hankede followed by Hithadhoo's Gaukendi, Rujjehera, Abuhera, RAF, Maamendhoo and Mainland Hithadhoo. To the South are Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo and Gan island. Addu City is a city in Maldives that consists of the inhabited islands of Addu Atoll, the southernmost atoll of the archipelago. Addu City is the second-largest urban area in Maldives, in terms of population, and is one of the two urban areas to get the status of "city" other than the capital city, Malé, and Fuvahmulah. Seenu Atoll, historically known as Addu Atoll, is the southernmost atoll of the Maldives. Addu Atoll, together with Fuvahmulah, located 40 km north of Addu Atoll, extend the Maldives into the Southern Hemisphere. Addu Atoll is located 540 km south of Malé, the country's capital. Administratively, Addu Atoll is the location of Addu City, one of the four cities of the Maldives. AdduLIVE is a regional news outlet based in Addu City, Maldives. It is one of the most popular regional news outlets in the country. History AdduLIVE was founded on 1 January 2013. Its website was officially launched at the Equatorial Convention Centre by the Mayor of Addu City Abdulla Sodiq. On 22 October 2015, AdduLIVE's website was hacked following repeated threatening calls made from anonymous callers to AdduLIVE journalists. The International Federation of Journalists criticized the hacking and called on the Maldivian government to condemn the attack and protect the security and safety of journalists. It was later back in the following week. The outlet claims that it was hacked after it published about a beginning of a presidential impeachment.
