''Hangad a Capella'' is the second album recorded by Philippine-based vocal ensemble Hangad. As the title says, all songs in this album were recorded without any musical accompaniment. Most songs in ''a Capella'' are arrangements of familiar Filipino religious and inspirational songs; with the exception of two tracks, ''a Capella'' was indeed to be a collection of songs composed by Jesuit composers. ''Hangád'' ( Tagalog: "yearning" or "desire") is an inspirational vocal ensemble known for songs like ''Pananatili'', ''Pagkakaibigan'', and ''Panunumpâ'' (covered by pop singer Carol Banawa). It consists of former members of ''Days with the Lord''. History Origins Hangad's origins begin with thDays with the Lord(DWTL) retreat/recollection at the all-boys Ateneo de Manila High School. In need of a singing group for their own group, Chad Arcinue and Lance Lazatin recruited classmates and friends. A high school faculty member, Gabby Mallillin, encouraged the then-unnamed group to sing in the next DWTL sessions. Because of this, the same group of people would often find themselves participating in school activities. As the members were known to be participants of the DWTL seminars, the group has often been mistaken for the DWTL's "official" choir. Daniel Laurent Schutte is an American composer of Catholic liturgical music and a contemporary Christian songwriter best known for composing the hymn "Here I Am, Lord" (1981, also known as "I, the Lord of Sea and Sky") and over 165 published hymns and Mass settings. Biography Schutte was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, on December 28, 1947, grew up in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, and graduated from Marquette University High School before entering the Society of Jesus. As a Jesuit seminarian, he was one of the founding members of the St. Louis Jesuits, composers who popularized a contemporary style of church music set to sacred texts sung in English due to the liturgical reforms initiated by the Second Vatican Council. ''Bituing Walang Ningning'' () is a 2006 musical television drama series that aired on ABS-CBN from May 15 to September 29, 2006, replacing ''Gulong ng Palad''. Magnificat
The Magnificat (Latin for " y soulmagnifies he Lord) is a canticle, also known as the Song of Mary, the Canticle of Mary and, in the Byzantine tradition, the Ode of the Theotokos (). It is traditionally incorporated into the liturgical services of the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox churches, and the Anglican Communion. Its name comes from the incipit of the Latin version of the text.
