Hamilton RFC
Hamilton Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. History Established in 1927 as Hamilton Academy FP (former pupils) rugby club, they play their home games at Laigh Bent. The men's side currently compete in ; and the women's side currently compete in . Hamilton Rugby Club was chosen as Scottish Rugby's Club of the Year for the season 2017-2018 having been runner-up in 2014/15. The Bulls received the honour of BT Club of the Month for October 2014. At the end of that same season, the club received a further honour by being named as Glasgow Warriors, 'Greenbelt Community Club of the Season' at the Warriors' end of season dinner. The Club invests heavily in Youth Development and boasts age group teams from Primary 1 through to under-18. The club's under-18 squad is one of only 16 teams in Scotland to regularly qualify for the National U18 cup competition. The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; ) is the Sport governing body, governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Now marketed as Scottish Rugby, it is the second-oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. Gerry Hawkes
Gerry "The Hitman" Hawkes (born in Scotland), is a Scottish former rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors at the Wing position. His career spanned the amateur and professional era in rugby. In 1989 he was playing for West of Scotland but in the same year he moved to Glasgow High Kelvinside. He was playing for Glasgow High Kelvinside from 1989 to 1997. Prior to their professionalism in 1996, Hawkes represented the Glasgow District. When Glasgow High Kelvinside merged with Glasgow Academicals to form Glasgow Hawks in 1997, the Wing played for the newly merged side. (The merger to form the Glasgow Hawks was incomplete and both Glasgow Academicals and Glasgow High Kelvinside survived as smaller spin-off clubs.) Edinburgh Northern Sevens
Edinburgh Northern Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held by Edinburgh Northern, in the Inverleith district of Edinburgh, Scotland. History The first rugby sevens tournament took place in 1955 and it has been played in all subsequent years, with the exception of the coronavirus pandemic years in 2019 and 2020. The 2023 tournament, won by Currie, had 21 sides taking part. Northern Cup The winners receive the Northern Cup. There is also a Bowl and Plate competition. Scottish National League Division Two
The Scottish National League Division Two (known as Tennent's National League Division 2 for sponsorship reasons) is the third tier of the Scottish League Championship for amateur rugby union clubs in Scotland. The division was established in its current format in 2014 after the creation of three national leagues below the Premiership. This replaced the two Championship Leagues which were scrapped after just two seasons. For the 2023–24 season, the division was reduced from 12 to 10 teams. Jonathan Douglas Gray (born 14 March 1994) is a Scotland international rugby union player. He plays at lock for Bordeaux in Top 14. Rugby union career Amateur career Gray started playing rugby at Cambuslang RFC where he progressed from the mini section (at 7 years old) through to first XV regular at the age of 16. Richard Maxton (born 5 June 1979 in Scotland) is a former Scotland Club XV international rugby union player who played for Glasgow Warriors at the Flanker position. Rugby union career Amateur career He started off playing rugby for Hamilton RFC but then moved to play for Stewarts Melville FP while at Edinburgh University. He was spotted by Glasgow District Rugby Union and was included in the Glasgow Thistles squad - the district's 'academy' team - that went to New Zealand for rugby training in the summer of 1998. The Glasgow Warriors are a professional rugby union side from Scotland. The team plays in the United Rugby Championship league and in the European Professional Club Rugby tournaments. In the 2014–15 season they won the Pro12 title and became the first Scottish team to win a major trophy in rugby union's professional era.
