Gail Halvorsen
Colonel Gail Seymour Halvorsen (October 10, 1920 – February 16, 2022) was a senior officer and command pilot in the United States Air Force. He rose to fame for dropping candy to German children during the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1949, for which he is was nicknamed "Berlin Candy Bomber" or "Uncle Wiggly Wings". Halvorsen grew up in rural Utah and always had a desire to fly. He earned his private pilot's license in 1941 and then joined the Civil Air Patrol. He joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942 and was assigned to Germany on July 10, 1948, to be a pilot for the Berlin Airlift. Halvorsen piloted C-47s and C-54s during the Berlin airlift ("Operation Vittles"). During that time he founded "Operation Little Vittles", an effort to raise morale in Berlin by dropping candy via miniature parachute to the city's residents. Asbjørn Halvorsen
Asbjørn Halvorsen (3 December 1898 – 16 January 1955), nicknamed Assi, was a Norwegian footballer, who played as a centre-half for Sarpsborg FK and Hamburger SV. He was capped 19 times playing for Norway, and was a part of the Norwegian team who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. He was later Secretary general of the Norwegian Football Association, and acted as head coach of the Norwegian national team. He is regarded as the architect behind the Norwegian "Bronze Team" that finished third in the 1936 Olympics. Kristin Halvorsen
Kristin Halvorsen (born 2 September 1960) is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party. She served as Minister of Finance from 2005 to 2009 and as Minister of Education from 2009 to 2013. She also served as the party's leader from 1997 to 2012 and a member of parliament representing Oslo, from 1989 to 2013. Taking over as leader of the Socialist Left Party in 1997, she established an unprecedented level of consensus within the party. At the 2005 election, the party received a disappointing 8.8% share of the vote, and in 2009 down further, to 6.2%. She stepped down as leader in 2012, and was succeeded by Audun Lysbakken on 11 March. Otto Bahr Halvorsen (28 May 1872 – 23 May 1923) was a Norwegian lawyer and politician from the Conservative Party, who served as the prime minister of Norway from 1920 to 1921 and again in 1923 up until his death in office. Background Halvorsen was born in Kristiania (now Oslo, Norway) to Otto Hellen Halvorsen (1840–1921) and Karine Christine Christiansen (1847–1927). He attended Kristiania Cathedral School. Johan Halvorsen (15 March 1864 – 4 December 1935) was a Norwegian composer, conductor and violinist. Life Born in Drammen, he was an accomplished violinist from a very early age and became a prominent figure in Norwegian musical life. He received his musical education in Kristiania (now Oslo) and Stockholm, and was a concertmaster in Bergen before joining the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He was a concertmaster in Aberdeen, then a professor of music in Helsinki, and finally became a student once again, in St Petersburg, Leipzig (with Adolph Brodsky), Berlin (with Adolf Becker), and Liège (with César Thomson). Andreas Halvorsen (born 8 December 1996) is a Norwegian professional golfer who plays on the Challenge Tour. He won the 2024 Danish Golf Challenge, and was a runner-up at the 2017 Visa Open de Argentina and 2019 Abierto Mexicano de Golf. Amateur career Halvorsen played for the National Team as an amateur. Tordis "Lillemor" Halvorsen (4 January 1884/1885 – 19 July 1955) was a Norwegian actress. Early and personal life Tordis Halvorsen was born on 4 January 1884 in Bergen to actors Nicolai Halvorsen and Inga Houge. Her first marriage was to engineer Christian Mohr (1876–1908). After his death she married Captain Francis Sidney Arbuthnot in 1912. Johan Magnus Halvorsen (10 June 1853 – 14 February 1922) was a Norwegian politician for the Free-minded Liberal Party. Biography Halvorsen was born at Ålesund in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. He was a merchant by profession. He started his business career as a sales representative in Vanylven Municipality in Sunnmøre. In 1874 he became a director at Selje forbruksforening in Nordfjord.
