Guy Hovis
Guy Lee Hovis, Jr. (born September 24, 1941), is an American singer, who, along with his former wife, Ralna English, a native of West Texas, was one of the featured acts on both the ABC and syndicated versions of ''The Lawrence Welk Show''. Background Born and reared in Tupelo, Mississippi, Hovis was the son of an officer from the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mississippi at Oxford. After a two-year stint in the United States Army, Hovis decided to try a career as a musical performer in Hollywood. Hovis had his first break with an appearance on the CBS ''House Party'' television program hosted by Art Linkletter; thereafter, he teamed with David Blaylock as the singing duo of ''Guy & David'', which led to a recording contract with ABC Records. Tupelo, Mississippi
Tupelo () is a city in and the county seat of Lee County, Mississippi, United States. With an estimated population of 38,300, Tupelo is the sixth-largest city in Mississippi and is considered a commercial, industrial, and cultural hub of North Mississippi. Tupelo was incorporated in 1866. The area had earlier been settled as "Gum Pond" along the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Arthur Gordon Linkletter (born Gordon Arthur Kelly or Arthur Gordon Kelly; sources differ; July 17, 1912 – May 26, 2010) was a Canadian-born American radio and television personality. He was the host of '' House Party'', which ran on CBS radio and television for 25 years, and '' People Are Funny'', which aired on NBC radio and television for 19 years. He became a naturalized United States citizen in 1942. Old clips from Linkletter's ''House Party'' program were later featured as segments on the first incarnation of '' Kids Say the Darndest Things''. Jim Nabors
James Thurston Nabors (June 12, 1930 – November 30, 2017) was an American actor, singer, and comedian, widely known for his signature character, Gomer Pyle. Nabors was discovered by Andy Griffith while working at a Santa Monica nightclub, and he later joined ''The Andy Griffith Show'', where he played the good-natured, unsophisticated Gomer Pyle. The character proved so popular that Nabors was given his own successful spin-off show, ''Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.'' Nabors also became a popular guest on variety shows that showcased his rich baritone singing voice in the 1960s and 1970s. Guy & Ralna are an American singing duo who appeared as regulars on television's ''The Lawrence Welk Show'' from 1970 to 1982. Musical career The act consists of Guy Hovis and Ralna English, who married in early 1969 and made their Welk debut on his Christmas show the same year. English had been a solo performer on the show for a few months, having already joined in mid-1969. They specialize in country, gospel, big band and popular music.
