Guy (given Name)
Guy ( , ) is a masculine given name derived from an abbreviated version of a Germanic name that began either with ''witu'', meaning ''wood'', or ''wit'', meaning ''wide.'' In French, the letter ''w'' became ''gu'' and the name became Gy or Guido. In Latin, the name was written as Wido. It was a popular name in Normandy and was used in England as well after the Norman Conquest. The name was popularized by romantic ballads about the dragon-slaying, giant-fighting folk hero Guy of Warwick. Guy Fawkes and the failed 1605 Gunpowder Plot later made the name synonymous with treachery in England. Effigies of Guy Fawkes are burned every year on Guy Fawkes Night in the United Kingdom. By the early 19th century, the tradition led to Guy being a term in England for a poorly dressed man. In the United States, ''guy'' became slang for an everyman. Its use for characters by Sir Walter Scott in the 1815 novel ''Guy Mannering'' and by Charlotte Yonge in her 1853 novel ''The Heir of Redclyffe'' popul ...

Guy-wire
A guy-wire, guy-line, guy-rope, down guy, or stay, also called simply a guy, is a tensioned cable designed to add stability to a freestanding structure. They are used commonly for ship masts, radio masts, wind turbines, utility poles, and tents. A thin vertical mast supported by guy wires is called a guyed mast. Structures that support antennas are frequently of a lattice construction and are called " towers". One end of the guy is attached to the structure, and the other is anchored to the ground at some distance from the mast or tower base. The tension in the diagonal guy-wire, combined with the compression and buckling strength of the structure, allows the structure to withstand lateral loads such as wind or the weight of cantilevered structures. They are installed radially, usually at equal angles about the structure, in trios and quads. As the tower leans a bit due to the wind force, the increased guy tension is resolved into a compression force in the tower or ...

I Wanna Be The Guy
''I Wanna Be the Guy: The Movie: The Game'', commonly called ''I Wanna Be the Guy'' and abbreviated to ''IWBTG'', is a freeware platform game created by Michael "Kayin" O'Reilly for Microsoft Windows using Multimedia Fusion 2. First released on October 5, 2007, the game is no longer in active development, though the game's source code was released by Kayin in 2011 and a remastered edition was released in 2020. ''IWBTG'' has unusually difficult platforming elements, unorthodox level design, and uses sound effects, characters, and music from many other games. Gameplay The player controls "The Kid". The controls are limited to left/right movement, jumping, double-jumping, and shooting. ''IWBTG'' is made up of several stages split into many screens, which are mostly pastiches of Nintendo Entertainment System games, such as '' Tetris'', '' Ghosts 'n Goblins'', ''The Legend of Zelda'', '' Castlevania'', '' Kirby'', '' Mega Man'', and '' Metroid''. At the end of each stage, a boss m ...

Game Over
"Game over" is a message in video games which informs the player that their play session has ended, usually because the player has reached a loss condition. It also sometimes appears at the successful completion of a session, especially in games designed for arcades, after the player has exhausted the game's supply of new challenges. The phrase has since been turned into quasi-slang, usually describing an event that will cause significant harm, injury, bad luck, or even death to a person. However, since the turn of the century, it has largely fallen out of fashion in favor of unlimited lives and endless checkpoints with autosaves, although it very much remains the norm in arcades, as they require payment inserts. History The phrase was used as early as 1950 in devices such as electro-mechanical pinball machines, which would light up the phrase with a lamp (lightbulb). Before the advent of home consoles and personal computing, arcades were the predominant platform for play ...
