Gurcharan Virk
Gurcharan Virk (c. 1968 – 11 October 2016) was a Punjabi people, Punjabi writer, director, lyricist and producer. He started his career in 1983 by recording a song. Some of the movies on which he worked as associate director include, ''Marhi Da Deeva'' and ''Udeekan Saun Diyan''. He directed the television films of ''Fauji Di Family'', ''Bapu Di Pension'', ''Police Naaka'', ''Attro Diyan Chugliyan'', ''Maawan De Dil'', ''Sardaari'' and ''Bapu Da Viah''. He directed serials, commercials, video albums, documentaries and films. Early life Virk was born in Faridkot district of the Indian state of Punjab, India, Punjab. Career Gurcharan Virk started his career in the film industry during the mid-1980s. He participated in the uplift of the Punjabi music industry. He helped introduce new talent in the industry including, Sukhwinder, Pargat Bhagu, Dilshad Akhtar and Manjit Roupowalia. Faridkot District
Faridkot district is one of the 23 districts in the state of Punjab, India with Faridkot city as the district headquarters. Etymology The district is named after its headquarters, Faridkot city, which in turn is named in the honor of Baba Farid, who was a Sufi saint and a Muslim missionary. The town of Faridkot was founded during the 13th century as Mokalhar by Raja Mokalsi, the grandson of Rai Munj, a Bhatti Chief of Bhatnair, Rajasthan. According to popular folklore, the Raja renamed Mokalhar to Faridkot after Baba Farid paid a visit to the town. It remained the capital during the reign of Mokalsi's son Jairsi and Wairsi. History The region was a self-governing princely state during the British Raj period.
