Grenadine Records
Grenadine Records was an independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The music label was founded in 1997 by Eric Y. Lapointe and Alex Megelas who met at Bishop's University's radio station CJMQ-FM. The label, initially named Bittersweet Records, released two 7" vinyl records and then changed its name in 1999 when a New York City-based label of the same name was discovered. The label was officially announced as Grenadine Records as of March 1999 along with its first CD release Syrup & Gasoline Vol.1 which was a compilation of bands from across Canada. The label's tagline of "''Timeless Pop Attitude''" reflected the label's interest in a variety of pop music with sometimes earlier influences. Alexis O'Hara
Alexis O'Hara is a Canadian transdisciplinary performer, born in Ottawa, Ontario, and currently living and working in Montreal, Quebec. Since 1997, she has been active in the Montreal cabaret and experimental music scenes. O'Hara ran the Montreal poetry slam for several years before switching her focus to vocal and electronic music and interactive performance projects. ''Subject to Change'' and ''The Sorrow Sponge'', two projects in which audience participation and electronic clothing are elements, have toured Canada, the United Kingdom, and Belgium. Her live and recorded work concerns itself with language, anthropomorphism, the human brain and heart, and social order. In 2009, she began working on immersive, interactive sound installations. Tricky Woo
Tricky Woo was a Canadian garage punk band, based in Montreal, Quebec. The "classic lineup" of the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Dickson, guitarist Adrian Popovich, bass guitarist Eric Larock and drummer Patrick Conan. Tricky Woo released music on Sonic Unyon, Estrus Records, TeePee Records, Triple X Records, Mag Wheel, Yeah Right! Records and Last Gang. According to Julian Cope's Head Heritage site: "Unfortunately, the band became the victim of bad timing. Starvin Hungry
Starvin Hungry was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto and later based in Montreal, Quebec. History Starvin Hungry was initially begun as a solo guitar and vocal act by John Milchem in 1995, performing original songs that drew inspiration from the Velvet Underground, Motörhead,'90s garage rock and early John Lee Hooker solo recordings. His twin brother Glenn, a local scene veteran and drummer for long-standing Canadian country-rock act Blue Rodeo, joined as a part-time member shortly after. In the years following Starvin Hungry alternated between a solo and duo live act in the Toronto bar scene, largely depending on Glenn's availability around Blue Rodeo's touring and recording schedule. Shy Child
Shy Child were an American electronic music duo from New York City, United States, consisting of Pete Cafarella on vocals and synthesizers and Nate Smith on drums. History Shy Child formed in the summer of 2000, when former college friends Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith separately moved to New York City. The duo shared a love for progressive rock and electronic music, and started playing music together in an attempt to create a fusion of the genres. Shy Child recorded their debut album, ''Please Consider Our Time'', in 2001. Originally sold through local record shops, Grenadine Records signed the band and re-released it proper in 2002, followed by the Humanity EP in 2003. The Frenetics
The Frenetics were a Canadian Punk rock band formed in 1999 in Montreal, Quebec. History Prior to the Frenetics, Malcolm Bauld was the guitarist and vocalist of seminal Montreal punk band Sissy Havoc which also featured Serge Nakauchi Pelletier of later group TEKE::TEKE. Sissy Havoc had one release, the 1998 NineSevenDemos album (The Mintaka Conspiracy). Malcolm Bauld and drummer Anne Gauthier formed The Frenetics in 1999, cementing it as a three-piece ensemble whose approach closely connected to punk and power pop sounds with fast and catchy melodies. The Dears
The Dears are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The band is led by the husband-and-wife duo of singer-guitarist Murray Lightburn and keyboardist Natalia Yanchak. History The band formed in 1995 and released their first album, ''End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story'', in 2000. Blurtonia
Blurtonia was a Canadian indie rock group formed by Ian Blurton, after the break-up of his previous band, Change of Heart. History Blurtonia was formed in May 1999 to play live shows in support of Blurton's self-released debut ''Adventures in the Kingdom of Blurtonia''. The band began performing in Toronto, including at the Rivoli and at Humble & Fred Fest at Fort York, The album was co-produced by Daryl Smith, Jon McCann played drums in the original line-up and it was later re-released by Sonic Unyon.
