Goya In Bordeaux
''Goya en Burdeos'' ( English: ''Goya in Bordeaux'') is a 1999 Spanish historical drama film written and directed by Carlos Saura about the life of Francisco Goya, the Spanish painter. Plot The title refers to Goya's move towards the end of his life to France from where he looks back at his career from the late 18th century onwards. The painter is played by two actors, as a young and an old man. Other characters include the painter's muse, the Duchess of Alba. Some people have assumed that Goya and the Duchess were lovers, and the film follows this interpretation. Carlos Saura
Carlos Saura Atarés (4 January 1932 – 10 February 2023) was a Spanish film director, photographer and writer. With Luis Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar, he is considered to be among Spain's great filmmakers. He had a long and prolific career that spanned over half a century, and his films won many international awards. Saura began his career in 1955 making documentary shorts. He gained international prominence when his first feature-length film premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 1960. Although he started filming as a neorealist, Saura switched to films encoded with metaphors and symbolism in order to get around the Spanish censors. Manuel De Godoy
Manuel de Godoy y Álvarez de Faria Ríos (12 May 1767 – 4 October 1851), 1st ''Prince of the Peace'', 1st ''Duke of Alcudia'', 1st ''Duke of Sueca'', 1st ''Baron of Mascalbó'', was the First Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain from 1792 to 1797 and then from 1801 to 1808, and as such, one of the central Spanish political figures during the rise of Napoleon and his invasion of Spain. Godoy came to power at a young age as the favourite of King Charles IV and Queen Maria Luisa. He has been partly blamed for the Anglo-Spanish War of 1796–1808 that brought an end to the Spanish Empire. Leandro Fernández de Moratín (; 10 March 1760 – 21 June 1828) was a Spanish dramatist, translator and neoclassical poet. Biography Moratín was born in Madrid the son of Nicolás Fernández de Moratín, a major literary reformer in Spain from 1762 until his death in 1828. Distrusting the teaching offered in Spain's universities at the time, Leandro grew up in the rich literary environment of his father and became an admirer of Enlightenment thought. In addition to translating works of Molière and William Shakespeare into Spanish, he himself was a major poet, dramatist and man of letters whose writings promoted the reformist ideas associated with the Spanish Enlightenment. Leocadia Zorrilla, married name Leocadia Weiss (9 December 1788, Madrid – 7 August 1856, Madrid), was the old-age companion of Spanish painter Francisco Goya, and mother of the artist Rosario Weiss Zorrilla. Life Leocadia was orphaned at an early age and her education was provided by her aunt, Juana Galarza. Much of her early life is presumed, rather than known. She apparently met Goya in 1805, at the wedding of his son, Javier, to her cousin, Gumersinda Goicoechea Galarza. In 1807, Leocadia married Isidore Weiss, a Jewish-German jeweler whose family lived in Madrid, and they settled into his parents' home. While living there, she gave birth to two children: Joaquín (1808) and Guillermo (1811). However, in 1811, Weiss had sworn out a legal document accusing her of "illicit conduct", and they separated.
