Gorai Canal
Gorai Canal () is a canal that flows through Kushtia, Bangladesh. It was excavated in 1949. The canal was constructed to benefit the residents of Kushtia Municipality, alleviate waterlogging in some agricultural lands of Mirpur Upazila, and expand the local waterways. Route The canal originates from the Gorai River and enters Kushtia through Mongalbaria and Kamalapur in the Kushtia Municipality. It stretches approximately , passing through Kamalapur, Mongalbaria Bazar, Udibari, Baradi, Mandirpara in Chourhash, Chechuya, Phulbaria, Jagati, and bypass, before reaching Minapara. Problems ; Encroachment The canal has been encroached upon due to prolonged disregard for the River Commission's regulations, excuses made in the name of development, negligence, and the shortsightedness of government offices. Kushtia () is a city located on the banks of the Gorai River in Bangladesh. It serves as the headquarters of Kushtia District and is considered the cultural capital of Bangladesh. Gorai River
The Gorai-Madhumati ( , ''Gôŗai-Modhumoti'') is one of the longest rivers in Bangladesh and a distributary of the Ganges. In its upper reaches, it is called the Gorai, and the name changes to Madhumati further downstream. Kushtia City Bypass Road () or N713 (Bangladesh) is a national highway and bypass road located next to Kushtia city. Construction of the road began in 2016 and was inaugurated in 2018. Background The process of construction of this bypass road started in 2005 but got stopped due to bureaucratic and land acquisition complications. In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, work resumed and stopped again. Later in 2016, the construction of the road started from January 28. 6.6 km long, 7.3 meter wide two-lane road has been constructed at a total cost of Tk 120 crore. A PC girder bridge, an underpass and 21 culverts have been constructed on this road. The then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this road on November 31, 2018.
