Gopanarayan Das
Gopanarayan Das (1 March 1948 – 15 September 2022) was an Indian advocate and politician who served in the Orissa Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1990. Das represented the Balasore Assembly constituency as a member of the Indian National Congress. Biography Education Gopanarayan Das was born on 1 March 1948. He first gained an interest in politics in the 1960s while he was a student at Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, becoming a student leader and organizing protests. Due to an ongoing state of emergency declaration, Das was drafted into the Indian Army in 1967, serving for a year in Siliguri with the Mahar Regiment. Das later studied law at Madhusudan Law University in Cuttack; while at this university, he was narrowly defeated in an election for student president. The Indian Youth Congress is the youth wing of the Indian National Congress party. 2000 Odisha Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Orissa Legislative Assembly were held in February 2000 to elect members of the 147 constituencies in Orissa, India. The BJP and BJD fought election together as NDA. The National Democratic Alliance won the most seats and Naveen Pattanaik was appointed as the Chief Minister of Orissa. The number of constituencies was set as 147 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Parties and alliances Others Result Biju Janata Dal joined NDA (BJP's side). The BJD won 69 seats, BJP won 38 seats. Seats won by NDA = BJD + BJP = 69 + 38 = 107 (higher than 74 -- the magic number). The Communist Party of India (CPI) is a political party in India.
