Charles Goodsell
Charles True Goodsell (July 23, 1932 – November 24, 2024) was an American academic and writer who was Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech's Center for Public Administration and Policy. He was perhaps best known for his volume ''The Case for Bureaucracy'', now in its 4th edition. Goodsell was a co-author of the ''Blacksburg Manifesto'', written with Gary Wamsley, Robert Bacher, Philip Kronenberg, John Rohr, Camilla Stivers, Orion White, and James Wolf – all of whom were at Virginia Tech during the 1980s. In 1994, Goodsell was elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Early life and education Charles T. Goodsell was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 23, 1932. David Goodsell
David S. Goodsell, is an associate professor at the Scripps Research Institute and research professor at Rutgers University, New Jersey (joint appointment). He is especially known for his watercolor paintings of cell interiors. Education David Goodsell studied a BSc in biology and chemistry at University of California Irvine. After this, he did a PhD in X-ray crystallography of DNA at the University of California Los Angeles, completed in 1987. Research Since completing his PhD he has worked as a structural biologist at the Scripps Research Institute (with a 2-year period in University of California in 1992-94). His research topics have included the use of structural biology and molecular dynamic simulations to investigate symmetry in protein oligomers, protein-protein interactions and for computer-aided drug design. Major Goodsell
Major L. Goodsell (1 July 1900 – 31 March 1988) was an Australian who five times won the professional World Sculling Championship. ("Major" was his given name, and not a military rank.) He was born at Hunters Hill in New South Wales. His parents were Charles James Goodsell, born 1874 Sydney, and Ada née Lang. In 1917 he married Ruby Eliza Myers in Sydney and they had at least one son (Keith Major Goodsell, b. 1921 and Ronald Goodsell) First attempt Goodsell's first attempt at winning the Single Sculls World Championship was on 20 September 1924. Goodsell was an up-an-coming sculler and had won the New South Wales amateur championship before turning professional. Goodsell Observatory
Goodsell Observatory is an observatory at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, United States. It was constructed in 1887 and was, at the time, the largest observatory in the state of Minnesota, the 6th largest in the U.S., and the 12th largest in the world. The Goodsell Observatory and its predecessor, a smaller observatory that opened in 1878, served as a widely consulted timekeeping station, bringing national prominence to Carleton College in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Goodsell Observatory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 for its national significance in the themes of architecture, communications, education, engineering, literature, and science. Elihu Goodsell
Elihu Bernard Goodsell (May 11, 1806 – November 17, 1878) was an American farmer, miner, and politician. Born in Sheldon, Vermont, he went to Quincy, Illinois, and then to Mineral Point, Michigan Territory in 1834. He was the first settler of Highland (village), Iowa County, Wisconsin and helped found the community in 1845. He was the postmaster and had farming and mining businesses. Goodsell served in the first Wisconsin Constitution Convention of 1846 as a Democrat. Jonas Platt Goodsell
Jonas Platt Goodsell (1819November22, 1869) was an American civil engineer and politician from New York. He was New York State Engineer and Surveyor from 1866 to 1867. Life He was born in 1819 in Utica, New York, the son of Dr. Thomas Goodsell (1775–1864) and Susan (Livingston) Goodsell (1864). He was educated at the Utica Academy. He began work on the survey for the enlargement of the Erie Canal in 1840, and continued there until 1842. Then he removed to Mobile, Alabama, to improve his health, and staid there until 1844. On November 27, 1845, he married Lavinia Maria Smith at Durhamville. He was appointed Second Assistant Engineer of the State Canals in 1846, and from 1850 to 1853 was Resident Engineer at Albany, New York. From 1853 to 1856, he was Chief Engineer of the Cape Fear and Deep River Railroad in North Carolina. William Goodsell Rockefeller (May 21, 1870 – November 30, 1922) was a director of the Consolidated Textile Company and a member of the prominent Rockefeller family. Early life Rockefeller was born on May 21, 1870, in Manhattan, New York City.
