Godiego
is a Japanese rock band founded in 1975, originally consisting of Yukihide Takekawa (lead vocals), Mickie Yoshino (keyboards), Takami Asano (guitar), Steve Fox (bass guitar), and Yujin Harada (drums). The band released its first self-titled album in 1976, with Takami's brother, Ryōji Asano, replacing Harada as drummer. By 1977, Ryōji left and was replaced by American drummer Tommy Snyder. They are perhaps best known for performing the song " Monkey Magic" for the 1978 television series ''Saiyūki'' which was brought over to the United Kingdom as ''Monkey''. This led to several releases through BBC Records, including "Monkey Magic", "Gandhara", and the LP '' Magic Monkey'' and several of their records charted in the UK. Their theme from '' The Water Margin'' was their sole UK Top 40 hit. Mickie Yoshino
, known professionally as , is a Japanese keyboardist, composer, producer, and arranger. Yoshino is known for leading the rock band Godiego. In 2005, he won a 28th Japan Academy Prize, Japan Academy Prize for his music. Yoshino's compositions were used in the film ''Swing Girls'' (Altamira Pictures). Yoshino still produces music with groups such as Godiego and EnTRANS. is a song by Japanese rock band Godiego, released as their 11th single. The song was used as the theme song for the 1979 film adaptation of the manga of the same name. The song was composed by Godiego vocalist Yukihide Takekawa and arranged by Godiego keyboardist Mickie Yoshino. Like many Godiego songs, it is both in Japanese and English; the English lyrics were written by Yōko Narahashi and the Japanese lyrics were written by Keisuke Yamakawa. Referring to the historical Buddhist land on the Indian subcontinent, "Gandhara" was used as the ending theme song for the first season of the television drama , known in the English speaking world as ''Monkey''. "Gandhara" was originally released in Japan on October 1, 1978, but it was later released in the United Kingdom in 1980 to coincide with the British broadcast of ''Monkey''. "Gandhara" reached number 2 on both the Oricon and ''The Best Ten'' charts in Japan, while the British release reached 56 on the UK Singles Chart. is a 1977 Japanese comedy horror film directed and produced by Nobuhiko Obayashi. It is about a schoolgirl traveling with her six friends to her ailing aunt's country home, where they come face to face with supernatural events as the girls are, one by one, devoured by the home.
