Godfried Schalcken
Godfried Schalcken (1643 – 16 November 1706) was a Dutch genre and portrait painter. He was noted for his mastery in reproducing the effect of candlelight, and painted in the exquisite and highly polished manner of the Leiden fijnschilders. Life and work Godfried Schalcken was born in Made, North Brabant, the son of Cornelis Schalcken and Aletta Lydius. Before he was four years old, his family moved to Dordrecht, where his father became rector of the Latin school. Schalcke studied under Samuel van Hoogstraten in Dordrecht before he moved to Leiden, into the studio of Gerard Dou (1613–1675), one of Rembrandt's most famous pupils. His earlier genre pictures very closely resemble Dou's work. He worked in Leiden until c. 1675, then returning to Dordrecht until 1691, after which he settled in The Hague, where he continued to paint until his death, near age 63, in 1706. Godfried Donkor
Godfried Donkor (born 1964) is a Ghanaian artist, living and working in London, who has exhibited in Cuba, Mexico, the US, Europe and Africa. He is known primarily for his work in collage, and has been described as similar to Keith Piper and Isaac Julien in his output. Some of his pieces depict boxers, such as Jack Johnson and Mohammad Ali. Donkor has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, both in the United States and in Europe, and was Ghana's representative to the 2001 Venice Biennale. His work is in the collection of the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institution. Godfried Jan Arnold Bomans (2 March 1913 – 22 December 1971) was a Dutch author and television personality. Much of his work remains untranslated into English. Life and career Godfried Bomans was born in The Hague and grew up in and around Haarlem, where his father had a law office. Already as a pupil in high school Bomans showed literary interest; he became editor of school newspapers and published short stories, even in literary and student magazines. Godfried Danneels
Godfried Maria Jules Danneels (4 June 1933 – 14 March 2019) was a Belgian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels and the chairman of the episcopal conference of his native country from 1979 to 2010. He was elevated to the cardinalate in 1983. His resignation that he had submitted in 2008 at the age of 75 was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI on 18 January 2010. Jan Joseph Godfried, Baron van Voorst tot Voorst Jr. (29 December 1880 – 11 November 1963) was the second highest officer in command of the Dutch armed forces during World War II and a renowned strategist, who wrote numerous articles and books on modern warfare. Godfried Aduobe (born 29 October 1975) is a former Ghanaian football midfielder. Playing career Aduobe started to play football in his hometown of Accra in Ghana. He moved to Europe by joining the youth academy of Italian club Torino Calcio in 1993, before signing for Swiss club BSC Old Boys during the same year and going on to make 13 appearances for them in the second division. Godfried Theodore Patrick Toussaint (1944 – July 2019) was a Canadian computer scientist, a professor of computer science, and the head of the Computer Science Program at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Eugène Edward Godfried Presilia (23 October 1952 – 29 March 2009) was a black Curaçao-born political activist and broadcaster. Educated in the Netherlands, he earned a degree in social services and spoke many languages, including English, French, Spanish, Papiamento, and Haitian Creole, which aided him as he interviewed foreign dignitaries. As a leader of the Action Committee for a Socialist Movement he participated in the Anti-Imperialist Organizations of the Caribbean and Central America collective in the 1980s. Godfried was the director of the Caribbean desk at Radio Havana Cuba and also contributed to Radio Progreso, Radio Rebelde, and Radio Taíno. Godfried van Mierlo, O.P. (2 February 1518 – 28 July 1587) was a Dominican friar who served as the Bishop of Haarlem and the last direct Abbot of Egmond Abbey from 1570 to 1578. Biography Van Mierlo was born in the City of Helmond on 2 February 1518, then the Duchy of Brabant, part of the Habsburg Netherlands. He entered the Dominican Order in 1533, at the age of 15, in 's-Hertogenbosch. He professed his religious vows as a friar of the Order the following year. After completing his studies, he was ordained a Catholic priest in 1542. He gained the degree of doctor of theology and was appointed as the Prior Provincial for Holland. Godfried-Willem Raes is a Belgian composer, performer and instrument maker. He is the founder of the Logos Foundation of which he is still the president. He holds a PhD from Ghent University and is professor of experimental music composition at the Ghent Royal Conservatory. Life Raes was born in Ghent, Belgium in 1952. He studied musicology and philosophy at the Ghent State University as well as piano, clarinet, percussion and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Ghent.
