Gerald Humphries
Gerald Harvey Humphries (8 December 1908 – 3 February 1983) was an English first-class cricketer who played two matches for Worcestershire in the 1930s. He made 26 and 4 in the first game against Sussex, while in the second two years later he hit 36 in his only innings. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Worcestershire County Cricket Club
Worcestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Worcestershire. Its Vitality Blast T20 team has been rebranded the Worcestershire Rapids, but the county is known by most fans as 'the Pears'. The club is based at New Road, Worcester. Founded in 1865, Worcestershire held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship in the 1890s, winning the competition three times. Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. The club was founded in 1839 as a successor to the various Sussex county cricket teams, including the old Brighton Cricket Club, which had been representative of the county of Sussex as a whole since the 1720s. The club has always held first-class status. Cedric Alfred Humphries (26 December 1913 – 18 November 1944) was an English first-class cricketer who played 13 matches, all for Worcestershire in 1934 and 1935. Humphries made an unbeaten 41 in his first innings on debut, though Lancashire won the game in two days by a huge margin, at Worcester. He made 44 — his career best — in his second match, against Cambridge University, and 43 * versus Nottinghamshire at Worksop in July, but these were the only innings of his career in which he reached 40. Norman Humphries
Norman Hampton Humphries (19 May 1917 – 18 December 2000) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Worcestershire in 1946. He also played minor counties cricket for Devon between 1938 and 1955. Humphries made his debut near the end of June 1946, against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, and scored 21 in his only innings. After making 3 in the first innings of his next game, against Glamorgan, he showed quite some consistency, his next five innings being 22, 16, 17, 22 and 16. However, he was unable to break through and produce a significant score, and after this one season he was never again to appear at first-class level. For Devon, however, it could be a different story, and in June 1949 Humphries produced his finest form. First he hit 199 against Kent II, and immediately thereafter he struck 216 not out, carrying his bat against Surrey II.
