Georges Marchal
Georges Marchal (10 January 1920 – 28 November 1997) was a French actor. Born Georges Louis Lucot in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, the strikingly handsome Marchal was discovered in the early-1940s by director Jean Grémillon. By the early 1950s, he had become one of the top male stars of French cinema, second only, perhaps, to actor Jean Marais. He was also a favorite leading man of filmmaker Luis Buñuel, appearing in the director's films '' La voie lactée'', '' Belle de jour'', '' Cela s'appelle l'aurore'', and '' La mort en ce jardin''. In 1951, Marchal married French actress Dany Robin and together they were a popular couple, playing in the movies ''La Passagère'' (1949), ''La Voyageuse inattendue'', ''Le plus joli péché du monde'', ''Jupiter'' directed by Gilles Grangier (1952), and ''Quand sonnera midi'' directed by Edmond T. Pierre Bost (5 September 1901 – 6 December 1975) was a French screenwriter, novelist, and journalist. Primarily a novelist until the 1940s, he was known mainly as a screenwriter after 1945, often collaborating with Jean Aurenche. In his 1954 article ''Une Certaine Tendance du Cinéma Français'' ("A Certain Trend of French Cinema"), François Truffaut attacked the current state of French films, singling out certain screenwriters and producers. The screenwriting team of Bost and Aurenche were criticized for their style of literary adaptations in particular, which Truffaut considered old-fashioned. Fernand Ledoux
Fernand Ledoux (born Jacques Joseph Félix Fernand Ledoux, 24 January 1897, Tirlemont – 21 September 1993, Villerville) was a French film and theatre actor of Belgian origin. He studied with Raphaël Duflos at the CNSAD, and began his career with small roles at the Comédie-Française. He appeared in close to eighty films, with his best remembered role being the stationmaster Roubaud in Jean Renoir's ''La Bête humaine'' (1938), but he remained primarily a theatrical actor for the duration of his career. Married to Fernande Thabuy, with whom he had four children, Ledoux was an amateur painter, and lived for many years at Pennedepie in Normandy. Later he moved to Villerville, where he died and where he is buried. He was also a swimmer who won the national title in 1911 and held the national record in the 500 m freestyle.
