George Rivera
George Rivera is a former member of the Colorado Senate elected in a September 10, 2013 recall election to replace Angela Giron. Rivera was elected from Colorado's State Senate District 3, which includes Pueblo, Colorado. Giron was the second ever Colorado legislator to be successfully recalled in the state's history. Life and career Rivera was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1948 and grew up on the city's east side. His parents arrived in Pueblo in 1948 after crossing into the U.S. illegally from Mexico. In 1963 they returned to Mexico (along with Rivera's grandmother) to process their visas and returned to the U.S. legally, later becoming U.S. citizens. Rivera attended Catholic schools for 12 years, first at St. Leander's Grade School and graduated in 1966 from Pueblo Catholic High School (which became Roncalli Middle School in the early 1970s). Colorado's 3rd Senate District
Colorado's 3rd Senate district is one of 35 districts in the Colorado Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Nick Hinrichsen since 2022, following the resignation of Leroy Garcia. Geography District 3 is based in the city of Pueblo in Pueblo County, also covering the nearby community of Pueblo West. The district is located entirely within Colorado's 3rd congressional district, and overlaps with the 46th, 47th, and 62nd districts of the Colorado House of Representatives. Colorado's 3rd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Colorado. It takes in most of the rural Western Slope in the state's western third portion, with a tendril in the south taking in some of the southern portions of the Eastern Plains. It includes the cities of Grand Junction, Durango, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Ignacio, and Pueblo. The district is currently represented by Republican Lauren Boebert. The district was represented from 1987 to 1993 by Ben Nighthorse Campbell before he ran for the U.S. Senate and switched parties from Democratic to Republican. Angela Giron
Angela Giron (born May 12, 1960) is an American politician who was a Democratic member of the Colorado Senate representing District 3 from 2011 until she was recalled on September 10, 2013, by groups opposed to her gun control legislation. Giron is the second ever Colorado legislator to have been successfully recalled in the state's history. Early career Senator Giron was appointed to the Colorado State Senate (from District 3) in August, 2010. She replaced Senator Abel Tapia, who resigned to become the director of the Colorado Lottery. She was re-elected later in 2010 and in 2012. At the time of her appointment, District 3 encompassed 89% of Pueblo County and included most of the City of Pueblo, Pueblo West and Beulah. Prior to her Senate career, Giron worked for the Boys & Girls Club of Pueblo, helping greatly expand and develop the organization.
